They are not mandating the types of lubricants (yet). But they are demanding higher fleet fuel mileage and every tiny bit helps - like lower viscosity motor oils and lighter differential oil.
If high heat is a real concern I would use 10W30 in summer. 10W is "thinner" in the summer...
Agreed. Wal-Mart Supertech is a pretty good oil - keeps my 60 year old tractor running 8-15 hours a day with over 5000 hours on the current overhaul. In its case thicker is probably better 10W40 year around.
Depends on how tight your engine is. I don't think they tightened up the tolerences on the 3.7 or 4.7 when the switch was made from 5W30 to 5W20. If anything with the length of production at that point the internal tolerances were probably growing as the machinery producing the blocks...
Agreed - but dirty is still dirty. If your oil is black at 3000 miles I damn sure wouldn't wait until 8000 miles to change it. The oil should still be translucent and slightly brown when changed. When you wipe the oil on your finger you should still be able to see your skin through the oil...
I installed a new long block in my 2005 Liberty Sport. With a cold start up there seem to be extra vibrations from the engine - no misfires, maybe a slight roughness in sound (???) but a noticeable vibration that can be felt through the entire vehicle. After its been running a few minutes it...
What engine is that? Looks a lot like the inside of the 3.7 I was sold as a running replacement with 145-150 psi compression on each sylinder as checked by their mechanics. Turned out that the rocker arms were also broke off on one cylinder - I wonder how that cylinder was tested. Pulled hte...
I also run Castrol GTX 5W30 with a Motorcraft FL400 filter. Wix is probably a better filter but with oil changes every 3000 miles I'm not as concerned as I would be with extended mileage oil changes.
Stupid question time. If you replace the condensor (and probably the air dryer) once its bolted together can you just refill with the WalMart A/C recharge?

A bad valve can cause a miss but I doubt it would go away when you turn on the AC and would most likely get worse.
Did they do any diagnostics on the injectors? I say this because the engine throttles up when the AC compressor kicks on - and your miss goes away. A partially clogged...
The radiator for an automatic has a small oil cooler for transmission - the manual will not have the oil cooler. So yes - there is a difference and its probably reflected in the pricing.
Drive to autozone and have them pull the codes so you know what is going on instead of the lot telling you what they think is going on. If you have a question about the codes post them here.
How many miles?
Any idea when the plugs were last changed?
Brand and number on the plugs?
Not to mention the work the transfer case, drive shafts and axles will need. More than a few fail on a regular basis with just the stock HP of the 3.7 being fed to them - imagine what 300HP will do to them - especially if you use it.
See my post about metal in oil. If you are not seeing metal when you change the oil you might try these guys:

Most likely it is a rod bearing (or all the bearings) - after some research I've found this very basic part of the engine has proven too difficult for the engineers...
That's it - except the engine shows no signs of having been run low on oil.
Except for the rod bearings the engine looked like an engine with 85,000 miles, a little carbon on the pistons, timing chains were in very good condition the stories I've heard about them, no sludge anywhere and the...
