This is true, but unfortunately I can't put in a new engine myself...don't have the equipment or experience. If it weren't for the cost of labor, I would be all over a new engine...maybe even a 4.7L, but that's definitely not cheap.
No worries. Looks like I'll be going that route as well. I looked into doing new heads ($3400) and my mechanic told me that they're not actually new. They're re-manufactured and that doesn't guarantee that the springs are new.
It has been confirmed that the valve spring did fail and also...
I assume the heads are ok. I may still replace them as opposed to machining though...it will depend on cost. But the way I look at it, I'm paying for a lot of labor to have everything re-built and machined...plus the time it will take waiting for the parts to be sent out to a machine shop...
I tend to go with the logic that if it seems to good to be true it probably is...but hopefully it's really new and not used/repackaged. As far as the install goes, if it has nuts that need to be inserted into slots in the plastic tank, make sure you do it before you install the radiator. Pain to...
Nope, I've never overheated it. My radiator blew up and was leaking really badly, but I just kept refilling it every 10-15 miles to get myself home from work and swap it out. I guess it's just bad luck. When I talked to Chrysler today, they told me I'm the third owner...dealer told me I was...
x2 ...radiators aren't that expensive, and they're easy to install. There's a lot of pressure going through it...I wouldn't be surprised if you blew that screw right out of it, especially threading it into plastic.
So I just got off the phone with Chrysler...They basically said "Sorry, that's too bad, we feel bad for you but there's nothing we can do." BS :emotions122:
It was all highway driving, stock gears. My normal everyday city/highway mix usually gets me about 18/19 mpg. When I lived in Boston, I was getting 16/17. This time I calculated the mileage over a 650mi highway trip. I didn't have time to do the oil before I left, and was getting about...
I like synthetic because it doesn't break down with heat like conventional oil. That's why you can go twice as long+ on one oil change. Really just needs to be changed when dirty. Price wise it's basically a wash...oil is twice as much, but you buy it half as often. I guess you save money buying...
I'm sure you're on top of it, but is the oil due? I was getting 18/19mpg when I was due for an oil change (I run full synthetic, changed every 7500 or earlier if dirty). After changing the oil my mpg immediately shot up to 22/23mpg. I was really surprised it made that big of a difference.
Well that inspires some confidence. Thanks! How much was a new head from the dealer?
I do love my KJ and don't want to get rid of it..especially since I just did the suspension a couple months ago. I'll probably have my friend help me replace both heads or have both machined.
Are the new...
Thanks, I should have tried to get codes..
But I did talk to the shop this morning and the news is not good. I have zero compression in cylinder #1. They can barely get it moving around the lot into the garage. He suspects a valve is stuck or dropped. Potentially a valve job, which he...
This sounds a lot like what happened to me last night! And, I did replace my radiator recently as well...about 2,500 miles ago. It really doesn't seem radiator/coolant related though. Mine is in the shop now waiting for diagnosis. Don't keep running yours, manual says is the light flashing...
