What kind of sound systems are you guys running
That's the plan when I need a new battery. I only have a 500w amp, so it's not anything major. The dealer put a new battery in it when I got the jeep, but its nothing great. I may add a cap down the line too. I don't have it cranked enough to dim that often, and when it does its not severe...- hectikart

front axle/driveshaft noise
it could be either, but the front driveshaft CV is a pretty common culprit. check your boots for tears. You can re-build the head for about $80. I had to do it in my '06 at 83,000.- hectikart

What did you do to your jeep today?
does canine blood count? my backseat is still a mess from when I had to rush my dog to the vet! I'm sure inside the engine compartment has a little of my blood too...just scratches though, fortunately no major injuries. reminds me of when a buddy was doing his brakes on his XJ....tried to use...- hectikart

looking to go camping this spring
I may need to get some info from you next year...I want to do a similar camping trip. My Fiancee's aunt lives in New Paltz...probably 2 hours south of there...so we may head up from CT, visit her and then head up to camp for a couple nights. NJ - not sure if you're into beach camping at all... -

I really want to relocate my amp and sub and add a cap. my lights dim when it's cranked...my next battery will be performance, but I can't justify changing it when it works. I can get the amp under the backseat no prob, but I can't think of anywhere else to locate a 12" sub other than the...- hectikart

I have alpine type r all around. 12" sub, 500w mono amp. It actually came with the jeep when I got it....but I really had a sick system in my eclipse years ago. Removed backseat and installed 2 Rockford Fosgate 12" P2's with a 2400w rf amp bridged, a second 1200w rf 4 channel amp running...- hectikart

I'll never understand why Jeep makes anything but 4x4's...regardless. If you're going to use it off-road x2 on skid plates. suspension, steel bumper, and a winch for when you inevitably get stuck with that 2wd.- hectikart

Only 2WD and 4 Hi
To shift into 4LO your transmission should be in neutral, rolling 2-3mph. Don't stop at neutral on the T-case lever, straight through...if that doesn't work, you have a problem.- hectikart

Snorkel/Front Bumper/Winch
I don't think they do...but there's really nothing else worth buying...except rock lizard, but I don't think they have KK bumpers either. So it's basically wait for ARB to make one, or have a fabrication shop do one custom.- hectikart

So, today sucked pretty bad! ...
Finally some good news! Got an update from the shop today, they got the heads off, no internal damage to the pistons etc...and, the head is ok! no machining required. One spring failed, wrecked a valve, rocker arm, and shot a hole through the valve cover... so replacing damaged parts, new...- hectikart

maybe start with a compression test. Honestly, if it's already at the dealer, I would probably have them diagnose it. I feel your pain though, my KJ died on the highway on me last week. Valve spring failed, basically stopped me in my tracks...that is a relatively common 3.7L problem, but...- hectikart

hard to diagnose from that with no CEL codes. The check engine light didn't flash, or come on solid at all? Did it just all the sudden die, and you coasted to a stop..or did it get rough and idle and stall out? white smoke from engine or exhaust? ever overheated it? It's pretty unlikely that...- hectikart

Spare Tire License Plate Mount and Theft Deterrent
Don't get too crazy mounting other stuff off the spare mount. An oversized tire taxes the gate hinge. A lot of people have ideas to mount a jerry can, etc. from the spare, bad idea. Use a tire carrier instead and mount stuff off that. I would imagine a shovel/axe wouldn't add a ton of...- hectikart
