    Oil...Where can it go?

Oil Consumption Worked all my career in the automobile industry. Back in the 80's and 90's car manufacturers' warranty on oil consumption on new cars did not kick in until the engine burned more than 1 quart per 600 miles. The tolerance stack up (cylinder bore high side of tolerance, rings...

    High mileage club

2003 Liberty Limited - 175,000 miles Original engine - runs fine, no sludge. Replaced original leaking valve cover gaskets. That's it on the engine. Replaced trans at 174,000 due to failed torque converter clutch. Original trans still working but TCC gone so replaced trans with 84k trans.

Busted something' on the front end

Safety! Would not drive jeep again until inspected. What if you lost steering at 60mph? Scary thought. Could be many things but check for bent wheel too as you have a wobble. Something is out of whack obviously.

    OEM Suspension Bushings vs Moog

Have read lots of advice to use only OEM bushings on suspension. Moog is the best quality brand aftermarket bushings AFAIK. So, how does Moog bushings compare with OEM as to performance and life? My application is a 2003 4X4 with stock suspension that will see only 4 wheel required dirt road...

help with 4x4 engine code (P0836)

Transfer case bushing The bushing on the transfer case cable was missing on my KJ. I bought a nylon bushing at Loew's. The bushing I bought was 5/8" od x 1/4" id x 3/8" wide. I drilled out the 1/4" hole to 5/16" for the input shaft stud. I used a wire clip snapped onto the input shaft stud...

    replaced ignition switch/actuator...still wont run

Won't run First, check the fuel pump fuse and then the fuel pump relay. If these are ok, then open the Schrader valve after turning over the engine. You should have pressure in the fuel line. Alternately you can check to see if getting fuel by pulling plug and seeing if it is wet after...

New Jeep owner and bad luck... need some help

Wow... Lots of codes. Never saw so many seemingly random codes. But I think there is one or two root causes that trip so many codes. Computers report out of spec readings but you must figure out what is causing them. I would check carefully for wiring harness damage as this came about as...

    White Smoke Oil Burning.

leak The most likely leak is the valve cover gaskets. Usually there is smoke and a burned oil smell when you open the hood if it is the valve cover gaskets. Look at the top of the exhaust manifolds to see if you can see burnt oil. My Liberty has over 300,000 kilometers and had bad oil leaks...

    Blower resistor?

Red Plastic The red plastic piece is a locking tab from an electrical connector. Jeep used these to ensure that connectors did not become unplugged. No problem with the locking tab missing as long as the connector stays plugged together.

    Transmission Squeak/Whine

Noise Whine may be coming from trans fluid pump. When was the last time you changed trans fluid and filter? I got a whine from a clogged filter from the torque converter clutch material. The whine was the pump cavitating because it couldn't get enough oil through the clogged filter. Hope...

    Sludge Death.....

Question... Why did you decide to acquire a donor engine rather than rebuild the original? The original crank could have been ground (or built up with weld material and re-ground if the scoring was too deep), one rod replaced, and the block hot tanked. Was the decision based on economics...

P0420 Driver Side Catalytic Converter Efficiency Fix

I had to disconnect the driver side cat and crossover exhaust pipe (one piece on 2003 Liberty's after 2/2/2003) to change the transmission. I re-installed the original starter with 173k miles when re-assembling the vehicle. Upon startup I got the P0420 cat efficiency code at about 30-50 mile...

    These pistons look normal?

Coolant in Oil When you get coolant in the oil, it mixes to form the white "sludge" you see. When faced with this problem, I don't drop the pan but instead fill the crankcase with clean oil, start the engine for 1 minute, then drain the oil, fill with fresh oil, and repeat until the oil is...
