Converting front tow hooks to shackles

I've used my front hooks several times to pull cars out of snowbanks, but I have never yet had to be "rescued" myself. I use a snatch strap long enough to loop through and hook one end on each tow hook to distribute the weight, and I've actually backed out a 3/4 ton dually with a dump bed...

2006 trail rated.. Where's the jack go?!

Well, I was hoping a chunk of wood would do it but now I'm going to have to get it out and try. Thanks for the heads-up. Andy

2006 trail rated.. Where's the jack go?!

OK, so here's a question that crossed my mind and I can't believe I didn't think about it before. With the Frankenlift/OME spring lift and 245/75/16 inch tires, will the stock jack clear that extra height, or do I need a new jack? I suppose I could get it out and try, but it's dark and I'm...

    Munroe brakes = CRAP!!

Monroe would sell you brakes made out of cardboard if they could. Not because they don't want to honor their own warranty, but just to get you back into the shop so they could tinker around and find something else that needs fixing. That's where they make their $$ at. My wife always had her...

    HOW TO: Brakes

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but how about a "how-to" on replacing the '02 rear drums with disk brakes - or is that beyond the skill set of the average shade-tree mechanic? -Andy

    Squeak from hell

I am going to side with tjkj and say to clean and lubricate the door seals. I was going to suggest the sunroof seal, since I hear a lot of that in my profession and it's an easy thing to check. Door seals, same sort of thing. They both have a silicone coating that's sprayed on after the...

Thump when coming to a stop

I get this also when I ease to a stop and sit at the light. As soon as the light goes green and I take my foot off the brake, "thump". It's like the torque converter isn't completely unloading.

    Block heater

I read those instructions. Here's my observation: you're looking at a coolant drain and refill in addition to the install. There used to be an outfit that made an oil pan heater that slid down the dipstick tube, but the dipstick on the KJ is so long, they probably wouldn't make one to fit.

    ouch

I don't care about the dirt and grime so much. What I can't stand is when my wife has the KJ for only half a day and she runs my average mileage from 18.7 all the way down to 11 mpg! She really likes to get her foot into it, I guess.

Pretty sure my starter went bad

Fast clicking noise means the solenoid is cutting in and out because there's not enough juice in the battery to spin the starter. Just needs a new battery.

    Winter driving

Yeah - if you're sliding past your turn-in, you're just driving too fast. 4WD isn't instantly going to grab and point you in the direction you want to go. The extra weight and momentum of your KJ is going to slide you straight through almost every turn. Slow down to idle...set your...

    Two With One Blow!!

Yeah, I'm iffy on latching up to the tie-down hooks too. The Honda was easier, it was a mid-eighties and had a nice meaty control arm to hook onto. The Intrepid or whatever it was, different story. Actually had the guy pop the trunk and wrapping around the cross-member between the rear wheel...

    Two With One Blow!!

Well, figuratively speaking. Our roads around home are still covered with tightly-packed snow 'cause it's fairly rural and hasn't gotten above 20 in about - what, three weeks now? Anyway, we were sitting down for dinner tonight when my wife looked out the kitchen window, across the field...

    Slow transfer case

Also you want to double-check the air pressure in both front tires. If they're not within just 2 or 3 PSI of each other, it'll cause enough of a bind to keep the transfer case from disengaging cleanly. Andy

    would this look funny?

225/75's are 1/2" taller than the 235/70's that were stock with the off-road package. They'll look fine. Personally I prefer narrow & tall to the wide look.

Beware, the next additive scam is here!

I'm tired just after reading the first paragraph. 88 words and not a single period. Chuck Norris would roundhouse-kick that crap so hard, it would turn into vodka and we could all get blasted.

    New Wiper Blades

Hi, I have a very early build Libby - ordered October 2001, took delivery November 11 2001. From the factory there is a short spoiler or wing built into the driver's side wiper blade. Not the wiper arm - on the blade. When those wipers wore out, I couldn't find a replacement. Even the...
