I mean it's like $10-20 more for the Mopar versions of those parts. Jeep parts really aren't that expensive anyways, why not just spend the little bit more for good OEM parts? My last car was a 3 Series. Buying parts for the Jeep is like a celebration every time I see how cheap the parts are.
Fair enough. I'm not planning to hit the dyno any time soon. Pulling more power out of the engine isn't huge on my list of priorities, it's got enough grunt for me now so as long as it sounds decent and the price is right it checks my boxes, lol.
Wait, a cam sensor relearn procedure? What is that? I've never heard of it before. Honestly I'm not convinced it isn't tied to the cam sensor somehow. The timing was too weird to have swapped in a new cam sensor the day before it decides to have some random no-crank episode. Been scouring over...
So, I found two ground straps attached to the firewall that went to two separate parts on the engine. Are there some more I should be finding? I feel like there are.
EDIT: Nevermind I found the answer :)
I'd say it's normal, and the play/catch you're feeling isn't in the diff it's normal play in the transmission. The parking pawl (I think it's called that at least) is what holds the driveline in place but there is always a little play. Even on a brand new car.
If you put it in neutral while you...
Yeah, yeahhhhh... Those were my plans if/when it happens again I just don't like the hurry up and wait aspect of it. Too obsessive to let a possible fault go I guess, even if I can't actually do anything about it, hahaha. Thank you for your input, @lfhoward and @Billwill! Will keep you all...
@Billwill that was my thought too after reading the forum but I took the ignition switch actuator pin out yesterday and it seems to be in good shape. No crumbling pieces when I pulled it out and the metal piece that breaks doesn't seem to be broken or breaking anywhere.
I would also assume...
The story:
So, this morning I did a few errands with the Jeep. Several stops with maybe 3-5 minutes drive time between each. When I came out of the auto parts store, the last stop, I hopped in the Jeep and went to turn the key to fire it up only to be met with...nothing. No crank, no start. The...
Those look good, @lfhoward!
Also, just got back inside from digging into the ignition switch actuator pin and mine isn't broken. Was hoping to find it broken for an easy fix but alas.
I was just reading about that and related components. I'm hoping it's something easy like that. The fact that it worked after repeated attempts turning the key and nothing else makes me somewhat hopeful? I'll dig into the actuator pin and see if there's debris/signs of damage. If anything now...
Went to the auto store and got a short antenna to put on it because the one that was on it wasn't even the right thread size.
Oh and when I went to leave the Jeep didn't start. Turned the key to start it and got one solitary click and then nothing. Tried this several times. Each time just one...
Still a good idea to keep a set of spares on you! I'm coming to find that there are a lot of things for the KJ that are getting increasingly harder to find. Not only is it old but it seems to be a model that has been kind of forgotten for some reason.
Couldn't seem to find the Speed Daddy (what a name...) ones on eBay, even looking through their eBay store. Like so many things with the KJ it's getting harder to find people still making parts for them!
Replaced my cam position sensor today. Have had a pretty steady leak on the passenger side of the engine. Thought it was the valve covers but ultimately traced it to the cam sensor. The o-ring in it was dead a long time ago. It basically fell out of the head once I had the bolt loose. I'm...
Yeah I'd noticed it had a really good sounding idle but whenever it was revved it gets a little raucous. Fun but loud exhausts can get old when you have to drive them every day unless it's on something that sounds really good.
Any specific model of Magnaflow you'd recommend?
