Oil service life.
If you want to go beyond the oil manufacturers suggested change interval, I would suggest doing oil analysis on your oil. While the mileage and time intervals are suggestions you can determine your own intervals by using oil analysis. It only takes doing it a couple times to see how long the oil...- JJsKJ

Oil service life.
Considering we are are all driving Jeeps in what would probably be considered extreme conditions, I wouldn't suggest going over the Severe Service schedule (up to 15K miles) w/ even Amsoil. I suggest only running to 15,000 miles if you live in a dusty environment, off road your Jeep, tow, race...- JJsKJ

It isn't so much that they are vulnerable, it is just that you are totally stuck if one does go bad. You can break the front diff or a cv axle and still get home or towed off a tough trail but if you lose a control arm you are done where you stand. Oil service life.
I thought they had one that actually monitored the oil similar to the DC version? Hmm..... Maybe it is only on their higher end cars? I know my Scion has one that is set at 5K intervals. (I wouldn't hesitate to go 25-30K on it running Amsoil 0W-30 though)- JJsKJ

I would run GY MT/R's as they hold up real well around rocks and most sharp objects. I think the OME lift and shocks/struts would give you a great ride over the rough stuff while keeping the KJ at a nice ride height. Definately carry spare upper control arms and switch to moog lowers so you can...- JJsKJ

Oil service life.
My yearly or 15,000 mile oil/filter change interval is working just fine on my 2 KJ's, Scion toaster and XJ. Of course I run all Amsoil fluids and filters that are guaranteed for up to 25,000 mile service intervals. The 3K/3 month interval has been dead for a long time and even modern dino oils...- JJsKJ

That is not at all what testing will show especially on extended service intervals. But hey, you can drive a lot of miles w/out problems using conventional oil and you just might never have a problem by changing it every 3 months or 3,000 miles but once you start pushing the interval out and...- JJsKJ

Oil pressure.......
I would go with whatever weight your manual suggests. For all but the newest KJ's, that is 5W-30. The MFG suggested weight isn't as important though as is the service specification. YOu Can run any weight you want as long as it meets the service spec. I will be switiching to Amsoil 0W-30 in one...- JJsKJ

FWIW, many manufacturers are switiching to 5W-20 for only one real reason. Fuel mileage. Lighter oils produce less drag on the internal moving parts of the engine and that allows the engine to work more efficiently which = slightly better fuel mileage. Spark Plugs
Agreed. Though the NGKs will start showing wear at around 20-25,000 miles, they work great and at less than $20 for a set it is worth doing often. Fresh plugs are the best/cheapest improvement you can make for driveability and MPG's.- JJsKJ
