I am looking for the intermediate steering shaft that lives between the firewall and the steering rack. I want an old one so I can use it as a template when I make my own.
I've seen it called the lower steering shaft too :shrug:
Then I wil take pics and tell you guys how I did it...

No - check it flat on the ground. It sits in a more relaxed position then.
Changing out the intermediate shaft is a straight forward job... But a tough one (big heavy parts that sometimes don't want to cooperate)
Remove wheel and brakes
Remove spindle nut
Bust the LBJ loose
Remove the strut...

That's what was grinding on mine.
Get under and check where the inner CV joint connects to the intermediate axle shaft. Grab hold of the CV joint housing (inner joint) and apply a radial load upward... there should be a tiny...
