The fuel purge pump. True name is called ( the fuel vapor leak detection pump). It is located on the outer backside of the gas tank in the middle closest to the top across from the EVAP canister.
When I had this same issue. I replaced the gas cap twice, that was not it, then I replaced the Purge Sensor/Purge Solenoid. That worked for a short time but finally in the end. I had to replace the Fuel Purge Pump that was my fix, for this issue.
Copper Core plugs are the way to go, I tried a few different platinum plugs. They all ran like crap, so I just use the stock NGK plugs. And for K&N filter, I have a ( AKA) Cold Air Intake = Hot Air. But I like it anyway its eazy to wash and reuse. I also have a Dynomax Muffler and I like the way...
Welcome,
I would like to say that your previously owned JX looked very well built. I think that you will find that your KJ will serve you well, and you will put alot of the same passion into it.
I got mine done at Perkins Motor City Dodge in Colorado Springs, back on September 30th. I had no problems, I got the recall notice in the mail and called the dealer to set up the appointment. It took them three hours to do the job.
I have ran the Bosch Long Distance Oil Filters before, they are very pricey. Works well, and much better quality then the plain Fram. But I like Purolator or Wix over all the rest. As for motor oil I run Havoline Pro DS Synthetic (AKA - Chevron Brand / Gas Monkey Garage Approved and good enough...
Just put some money into it, I started with a lift and it was not to my liking. So then I saved up for OME Springs and from there its blown into a love affair. It's not my first, but it has been the most that I have ever put into and not stopping it anytime soon.( It's a Jeep thing)
I cover the cap with a rag and twist it off with channellock pliers, and then use the rag to wipe the threads clean. Then with my finger, I grease the threads with clean motor oil before I twist the oil cap back on each time.
And I two run 31x10.50 on soft eights on 4 on 4.5 back spacing. I had to pound the pinch weld and still rub at full turn from time to time. I want to jump to 32's but not untell I regear to 410's.

All new SUV's and Car-Vans look the same, what a shame. Its all about gas milage and hate the way they all set so low. Have no power, long for older Jeeps and Trucks when they were bulit to due what they were made to due. Long live our KJ'S.
