    Donor Engines!?

Check what you need to get your warranty. Some places require certain things be changed, some obvious like oil filter, water pump, gaskets, stuff like that. Really picky places want certified mechanics to do the instigation. Most of the caveats are to protect the salvage yards from idiots...

What is the longest you've seen cheap bushings last? Is Omix-ADA a good brand?

Omix-ada used to be a good parts source, I've had a pulley for the 4.0 XJ go bad from them in about a month. Box said made in china. Know of somebody who's Omix alternator is going out and has very noisy bearings. Don't know about this part specify but just be ware of them. Sent from my...

    Donor Engines!?

To be safe I'd aim for a 2005 and up 3.7 engine. You can even use a 2012 liberty engine just a few sensors to swap and the oil filter adapter is different, I just use the filter for the year engine I bought instead. The computer 2002-03-04 was different from the later years so the reluctors...

"Part Time" light on inst. panel lit up in 2-wheel high.

The switch it self if very similar, np242 &231. The main difference is the 242 switch has more positions for the various modes (part time / full time) On the 231 it's a very simple switch that is fairly easy to get at in the XJ, I've swapped them and the older vacuum line switches without...

"Part Time" light on inst. panel lit up in 2-wheel high.

The switch ought to look like this I've changed them on XJ and it's not that hard. If it's just this switch it's a easy fix. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

"Part Time" light on inst. panel lit up in 2-wheel high.

If it's a Np231 transfer case it pretty easy to change the switch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

"Part Time" light on inst. panel lit up in 2-wheel high.

Sorry CAD is a XJ (1984-91 ) not KJ, when the new topic popped up on my phone I didn't notice which forum it was on, For the KJ it either s bad sensor or the transfer case is stuck in 4 wheel high. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

"Part Time" light on inst. panel lit up in 2-wheel high. Could be the switch on the case. Has it disengaged to 2wd high? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    Accessory grinding noise on occasion

Probably the tensioner. I need to replace mine again the mopar tensioner I bought has too much play when the ac is on (bounced under tension) So it's new, & mopar but no good The compressor is the hardest thing to turn the engine will power would be surprising if failing tensioners acted up...

    slow loss of coolant

True. in our case the motor flush we had done was the final issue for that motor. Too much crud and gunk in the pan to leave it alone. Probably was easier to remove the engine than do in vehicle repair. I do know that rotella and other recommended high detergent oils will start to cut the gunk...

    slow loss of coolant

Well with a bad leak it will not take much for the test to show it. If it's new oil I'd go a few thousand miles before sending it in for one test, if your doing a series of tests I dunno. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    slow loss of coolant

I had a new rad cap from crown that looked great but didn't seal, no idea if the cap of faulty of if the previous owner had the radiator changed. It didn't leak for a few miles, looked fine at first inspection too. It didn't clampdown hard enough, I think the dog ears on the cap were too tall...

    2002, 100K - Burnt Valve - Sell or Keep?

Personally if the body is good I'd keep the KJ. Even at a cost I figure the jeep is worth it. But that's me, I kinda of take pride in keeping my old jeeps on the road and can do most of the work myself, but it's got to be worth it for your family cause in the worst case scenario it could be...

    slow loss of coolant

I've had radiator fluid loss do to seeping o-rings to the heater core, a radiator hose clamp that some how loosened up in the winter just enough for a small drip. Those were the less obvious and hard to catch. Easy for a pin hole leak only at certain temperatures or pressures to be impossible to...

    3.7 missing

Um I think that code is for cylinder 2, a quick test is to just swap coil on the engine and see if the failure moves with it. Could also be a spark plug. Sadly you probably need a compression test on that cylinder to see if it's below spec. But others here probably have a better...

    RIP My KJ

Many years ago my parents sold a car to the son of fiends of the family, he kept it a few years and sold it on. Something like four or five years later we saw it at at the beach, well what passed for a beach. We recognized it from the rust hole patched with fiberglass my dad did. It look more or...

    A/C problem

Should be a condenser by the radiator, possibly a hole in one of the lines or inline dryer. Probably the condenser either rotted away or hit something to cause a leak . On the commander dryer accumulator and lines clustered by the radiator, old XJ it was just the condenser up front. Sent...

    Jeep Wave?

When I fist got my xj seemed like the wranglers and XJ waved more than in recent years. Honestly forgot about the jeep wave it's been so long. ( also might be because my old XJ is lifted with more aggressive tires, the 91-2 XJs I don't remember getting too many waves) Probably because the jeep...
