    coolant tank

actually, i would think that because the "dirty side" of the tank is directly connected to the cooling system, any coolant expansion including boil over would just be directed to that as it would be the path of least resistance.

    coolant tank

i did NOT say ANYTHING about intelligence. dumb and smart is given to you at birth. but wisdom comes from a long line of experiences that you can draw from. what i am trying to do is determine exactly how and why the way that this works. there is not a problem (at least that I know of). i...

    coolant tank

fvcetr Now THAT I DIDN;T know! I think for an experiment, i am going to pour a pint of coolant into the "clean side" and let the engine get to normal operating temp, then shut it off just to see if anything happens thru 1 heat/cool cycle. if nothing happens, i will leave it that way for a...

    coolant tank

so it will push the air into which side? the clear side, or the dirty side? are the 2 sides connected in any way? it appears to me that the dirty side is directly connected to the cooling system and coolant can flow into or out of the engine at any time. but i have not ever seen a drop of...

    coolant tank

" NOTE: The coolant bottle has two chambers. Coolant will normally only be in the outboard (larger) of the two. The inboard chamber is only to recover coolant in the event of an overheat or after a recent service fill. The inboard chamber should normally be empty. If there is coolant in the...

    coolant tank

can someone please explain the coolant tank and how it works on a 2005 Liberty? i know how a conventional tank works, but this one with it's 2 sections and 2 hoses baffles me. and what happens if the engine actually overheats? i think it would just blow out of the tank right...

so does anyone know what size and pitch the tread is where you would screw on a cooling fan clutch?

    command trac ?

so, i have an update on this. i changed all the fluids, F&R Diff, transfer case and transmission. and i took this for a short trail ride today. it no longer feels like the 4WD system is binding anymore. even on dry pavement (at speeds between 10 &55 mph). i am certain that it will on pavement at...

    " fully adaptive " ????

the trans. filter came with a fairly thick rubber gasket, so that is what i used. one thing i learned decades ago, is that a gasket serves 2 purposes. 1) to seal 2 surfaces, and 2) to serve as a spacer of sorts. take away the gasket and you are altering the clearance between items. most of the...

    " fully adaptive " ????

it was doing a few things that i didn't like the feel of. 1) it shifts great 1,2,and 3rd gear, but the shift to 4 was a little soft, plus the od lock up was really funky sometimes. when i initially checked the fluid, it was WAY OVER FULL. it turned out to be 2 full quarts over full. so i...

    " fully adaptive " ????

so i was reading the 42rle section on the automatic transmission of my Jeep in the service manual. and it says " Control of the transmission is accomplished by fully adaptive electronics. " so is this just Chrysler trying to make this transmission sound sophisticated, or does this transmission...

    Transmission flush ?

I did add a drain to the pan. i always do. maybe if the factory added a $1.15 drain to the pans on every automatic they built, people might change the fluid/filter like they should. and no, i doubt there is a drain on the converter. but i really don't know. i couldn't see a way to access the...

    Transmission flush ?

so I have my Liberty up on jack stands, changing the transmission fluid and filter. is there a way to flush the torque converter and oil cooler ? I guess I could just disconnect the cooler lines and use compressed air to push the fluid from the cooler. but that still leaves quarts of fluid in...

    command trac ?

well, i spent most of my life with 2wd vehicles, seldom getting stuck. the big thing in 2wd off roading is momentum. its not like you need a LOT of speed, usually 15mph will get you thru a lot. when it comes to water, a big stick, or a fist size stone can be a good test, on how deep the water...

    command trac ?

so basically, run it in 2wd until i get stuck. and as soon as i am rolling, put it back in 2wd.

    command trac ?

so I had my Liberty in 4wd high last night for the first time. this is only the second 4wd vehicle i have owned. the first one was a 2000 GMC Jimmy, but once which was a electrical/vacuum operated system. so obviously, there was no "feel" to it. well, the jeep shifted into 4wd hi ok. but it felt...

Offsets, Backspace, and other wheel info

I just stumbled across this, and thought it could help some of us to understand wheel offset, this is the website i found it on... https://www.roadkillcustoms.com/wheel-bolt-pattern-cross-reference/?Make=JEEP&Model=LIBERTY%202WD,%204WD&bp=5%20X%204.5&cb=71.5&os=&c=1

    wheel skins ??

Thanks Craigo, that's exactly what i was looking for. an honest real world experience review. come payday, I will pull the trigger on a set. :) p.s. I like the Cherokee wheels as well. when i get a set of them, i will put street tires on them, and mud tires on the original Liberty wheels.
