And now it has happened again. Today it would not start in Park or Neutral and walking it through the gears did not seem to help. Tried it multiple times as well as removing the key and so forth, nothing. Put it in Reverse and pushed it backwards a few inches and tried again, started right up...
ok latest info.
Took the Jeep by a "drive shaft" shop today and they drove it and inspected everything. First off my initial noise I was complaining about they also said was all tire noise.
Second off however the drive shaft from the guys in Jersey is out of balance, end of story. They felt...
ok follow up time - NOT HAPPY!
Had my "tire guy" rebalance all tires and inspect them, check alignment and install the new shaft. Drove about 2 blocks afterwards and drove right back to the shop and had the mechanic go down the road with me because my noise was still there. He swears the noise...
This has happened a couple of times where the ignition will turn on but not start the starter to turn the car over in Park. switching to Neutral it will start right up and the first time this happened I just walked the shifter through the gears several times forcefully then it started in park...
The work itself isn't what concerns me, it is very straight forward. What I don't like is being under the Jeep with it on jack stands while doing things which are clearly going to rock the Jeep around. I've got molded running board so I can't slide in from the side and leave it on the ground.
Yeah while I could not get it on a lift I got under the Liberty and took a few pictures of the joint and it's not in good shape. I'll probably just have somebody do the work for me while I provide a replacement shaft. Really not comfortable working under it in the driveway with it sitting on...
Found another few threads on the Front Axle and by all the reports of sound and such I think it is the axle. Front joint looked fine, back looked "normal" to me but from those same threads it sounds like looks don't mean squat and that the rear joint goes out pretty consistently.
Seeing full...
ok so some follow up.
Wet roads today so once I got into the neighborhood I put the Liberty into 4WD and there was a clear clicking with a slight grinding noise coming from the Left (Driver) Front. More of it and louder in turning, went away as soon as I took it out of 4WD.
Ideas? Got to get...
Was on the lift today for all the fluids to be changed out and mechanic really feels all the noise and even the feel in the steering column is from the tires. Everything looked good underneath and nothing appeared cracked, loose or worn. No movement at all in the tires when trying to shake them...
Nope, the sound, while fainter or maybe just fainter because it is not combined with the tire noise, is still there. Can clearly feel a grinding in steering wheel when holding it in the center vs 10 & 2. If it was a 2 wheel drive vehicle I would say wheel bearings.
Goes on the lift on Tuesday...
ok so I went to rotate and I am PO'd. Shop that did my alignment also did a rotation and cross threaded a lug nut. I broke it right off trying to rotate.
Anyway after rotating, lug nut still broken, there is a clear change in the sound. I still think I am getting to much noise from the...
Why yes I do. I'll see if the guy who mounted them put the mileage on the work order but 20k or so sounds about right. the noise those, at least to me, seems far louder inside than outside when I roll down my window.
I've coasted in neutral with no change in the sound. (4x4), I've not been in 4x4 for awhile. Been avoiding it because the dang switch in the tranny/xfer case gets stuck and the dash light shows me in 4WD long after I've switched back. Eventually it unsticks and the light goes off.
Saw some other threads about similar sounds and just starting a new thread in case nobody responds to those older threads.
02, 150,000 miles
Whirring sound from frontend, much more so from the drivers side than passenger and louder inside the car than outside that I can tell. I seem to feel...
Old thread but wondering if my noise is the same.
02 Liberty, 150,000 miles, Whirring sound starts at about 35 and continues through 50 then tends to disappear. Some roads this is more evident but could be that is because those roads I am stuck at the right speeds for the sound to start. Sound...
Reviews are pretty good overall and life expectancy is higher than Silver Stars. I was not overly impressed with the Silver Star bulbs other than I do think they had a better beam than stock and also made critters eyes pop out at you easier.
I think I may try the Philips 9007 X-tremeVision...
