I'm doubting your issue was the lack of a plastic gapper, and I too have never found one in the stores. I bough Bosch Platinum Plus plugs and they were already gapped to .40 so I didn't have to use a homespun method to gap them. My guess is if the metal gapper had caused your problem, the...- jnaut

I'm confrused here, do you have a mechanical fan? If you don't, and you go to the link BjBnet left (thanks for the props) you shouldn't need to remove the fan shroud at all. You certainly won't go wrong with the NGK coppers. If you're looking for a rapid return to normalcy for the least amount of cash outlay, I'd go back to the coppers. I too am a little concerned about NGK stating a .44 gap when the 3.7 requires a .40 gap. BTW, when you regapped them, did...- jnaut

My experience with this very thing is, once you hear the noise, you're done. Way, way back I had a car that sprung an oil leak and the oil got very low. Started that knocking sound, it was over. I put oil in it, it kind of went away, the engine died within the next two days.- jnaut

4H and tight turning
It might be something you have to look into now...cause you might have hosed your transfer case. Rain on pavement isn't enough to justify 4h (let alone 4lo). You WILL experience driveline bind which results in the exact symptoms you describe. You might get away with it once or twice, but...- jnaut

Slotted Rotors and Mud. Do they mix?
My opinion is that the slots just aren't deep enough. It makes the whole thing a non-issue even if driving in deep mud. I mean, think about it, your entire wheel, brake caliper, pads etc are jammed in 13" of mud, are 7 slots on a rotor less than an 1/8th of an inch deep going to seriously...- jnaut

Plugs are cheap and it never hurts to change them if you're not sure. Some do a yearly change (15,000), some at the 30,000 interval. I think a lot of the dealers ignore the plugs, despite the A/B service intervals. My dealer did all my service in the first 5 years of the KJ's life, and at...- jnaut
