The Official "My Gas Mileage Sucks" Thread

Wow, that 11mpg city is kind of a mystery. That seems low, but it's hard to say depending on what your city-driving conditions actually are. The fact that you're getting 23 highway (which is actually a tad high for a nominally tuned KJ) tells me nothing is physically wrong.

IDIOT hurting a kj for fun

Here's the comment I posted to the video. It's "pending approval" so I doubt it'll end up on the page: Word to the wise. I went to a monster truck show about 10 or 12 years ago, and they had an event where people could run their own 4wd vehicles over a rather straightforward course. The...

Also, do those mobar side bars work effectively as rock rails?

    Trade of the day

No car should have a bra. It's always kind of like that wallpaper you think is a really good idea, and then you regret it five years later. here in the NW, those bras will have trapped moisture and dirt underneath them. Plus, it becomes a pain to get under the hood. Go commando.

Brake Dust messing with my wheels!

Look carefully at a lot of SUVs, a lot of front wheels have that reddish dust on them. Pretty common. Some say it's 'cheap' pads-- while cheap pads will cause dust, not all dust-prone pads are cheap. I think there are some composition pads which are considered good quality that will still do...

    Ways to monitor trans temp

KJ doesn't push trans temp on the OBD port. Simply not available. I was bummed too. I still love my SGII though.

Grrr - lug stuck - drilling stud %&@*!

Stupid dealer used to crank my lugs on so hard I had to jump up and down on my lug wrench once to break a lug loose. Tighten harder, not smarter.

Anyone have a DIY for fuel injector?

I want to say it's not the toughest thing to do-- maybe the hardest thing might be removing the fuel rail? I've got a manual. I'll take a look in there and see if I can paraphrase what it says for you.

This. Check for codes as well. When was your last plug change?

The "Warped" Brake Disc and Other Myths

Yeah, that's why most manuals for working on your brakes suggest you remove some fluid before compressing the piston all the way back-- to avoid overflows. If you've kept adding brake fluid over time, it'll overflow when you change the pads. Or yeah, what Ryan said.

    Grille Mesh Mod Question...

Kind of what the others said. The only decision you have to make is placing the mesh in front of the slats or behind. IN front shows better, but you can see the rough edges of the cut grille material. Behind doesn't show as well unless you leave them silver or go with a bright color, but they...

    milky residue on oil cap

My first, knee jerk reaction is coolant getting into the oil? That could certainly cause misfires, might cause a milky residue, and if severe enough would make noticable noise in the engine. Maybe you could throw up a pic of the residue?
