Question about bolts needed for hitch.
A tap in that size can be very difficult to find. I was able to borrow a thread cleaning kit from my local O'reillys that had the correct sized thread in it and did the trick. Troy, what's the problem with grade 8.8 bolts- are they not strong enough? I would think a proof load of 85,000 PSI...- sevenhelmet

2004 KJ: Need assistance with manual transmission fluid change
Yup! That looks like mine did when I first changed the oil. Word to the wise: DON'T over-tighten the fill plug or it will get stuck and possibly round out when you try to remove it next time. If that happens, your only option is to fill your tranny through the shift tower which is a PITA...- sevenhelmet

Backspacing question!
I had slight rubbing with 235 70R16s on a stock suspension, but I have slightly bigger tires now that she's lifted. I emphasize SLIGHT rubbing, nothing 5 minutes with a heat gun can't fix.- sevenhelmet

What did you do to your jeep today?
Seems like I've found a lot of people on here and LOST replacing their front drive shaft CVs lately (myself included.) Has anyone else noticed that when you have a problem with your Jeep, there are lots of other people having the same problem at the same time? Or is it just me...- sevenhelmet

Backspacing question!
I have 16x7" soft 8s with 4" backspacing, and I get mild rubbing on the fog light doors with an OME lift and bigger tires. I really like the wider stance though. There are some pictures of my Jeep floating around on this site somewhere, I'm at work right now so I can't post any.- sevenhelmet

You've got the drain plug all right, but I think you've mislabeled the fill plug. Mine is in a similar spot on the PASSENGER side, and although there is a circular cutout on the driver's side, there is no actual plug there. There is no dipstick. How To: Change front driveshaft / change a driveshaft head
Just replaced the front shaft CV. I found all kinds of gritty stuff in there, and the joint had some play in it so I think that boot had been torn for a while. The boot came off in 3 pieces.- sevenhelmet

Gear Oil selection
At my last driveline fluid change, I used Coastal 80W90 in both of my open diffs (non synthetic.) It is fractionally thicker than 75W90, but either one should be fine for you. I'd say if you're worried about the money, then just save up and continue to wait until it doesn't hurt as much to do the lift and tires. I waited a few years before I got an OME suspension on my KJ- and it was worth it when I did. I've wheeled mine in places I was sure I'd never get out of...- sevenhelmet

Replace stock front tow hooks with D-Rings?
I haven't checked on mine, but you might be able to use the triangular base for the hooks as a starting point for frame mounting, and drill some holes in metal stock to make a bolt-on replacement...- sevenhelmet

Noise: "Squeak Squeak" on cold start
