I know it has been done for fact on older Grand Cherokees and Rams. You are correct, no difference but programming. It did, the dealer had it trying to figure out what was wrong and gave to back to them just in time to grenade, I'm sure it was already on the way out when they got it back. The water pump thing was found on the post-mortem. They got an engine out of it since that part was directly attributed...- 04Liberty

Friend of mine blew up a 3.7 and neither he nor the dealer could figure it why it kept overheating til they figured out the plastic impeller was spinning on the shaft (or more accurately the pulley shaft was spinning inside the plastic impeller).
