I just replaced the brake pads and rotors and I hear a slight noise as if the back brake is grabbing, I will get out and sometimes not all the time, the brake is very hot... Is in an install error or could be e-brake messed up. Btw, for some reason the e-brake is not working...

Sounds like a bad caliper when the piston sticks and will not back off seen melted center caps on the wheel when this happens.

Your e-brake shoes could be the culprit as well... they get pretty mean when they decide to fall apart.

Had the drivers rear caliper on my 05 libby lock up on me. Locked up so bad when I got out and looked the rotor was glowing red. Another thing I didn't think of at the time but happened a couple of days later when I fixed the caliper was that the tire blew...probably as a result of heating up.

It is just strange that all this happened when I replaced the pads and rotors... I am hoping it is an easy fix? It only makes noise at low speeds, very low speeds.

Did you get the rotor on flat against the mating surface? Did you torque the lug nuts the same. Either can cause runout on the rotor. Runout is when the rotor disk doesn't rotate true and acutally wobbles. You'll get uneven wear on the pads. Even a small amount of runnout can result in pulsing brakes and half the brake pad life.

The other thing to do is make sure the pins the caliper rides on are not corroded and lubricated well. They come from the factory with almost zero grease. Remove those rubber boots from the pins, clean them up or replace them and lube them well.

Also check the channels that the pads ride in, if you didn't replace the stainless channel liners, then at least make sure they are as clean as possible. Any crap in them will cause the pad to stick. Put some lube on the ears of the pads where they ride on the stainless channels.

Clean clean clean. Lube Lube Lube

Hardware kits with replacement channels and boots are cheap. around $10 at autozone.

Also try adjusting the parking brake - in a safe area, get rolling backwards (where you wont hit anything) and pull the handle up a couple of times until the parking brakes engage firmly. Might have to do it a couple of times if its way out of adjustment.

Na happens after a brake job cause the piston is pushed back in to the caliper farther than when the pads are worn

Brake noise

I just completed a brake pad/emergency brake shoe and rotor replacements on my 2006 Liberty (front and rear). The picture is the rotor/drum and emergency brake shoes that had the both e-brake linings come apart inside of the rotor/drum. The drivers side failed while the passenger side still was serviceable. This is just shy of 100K miles. There was a noise at a low speed as you have described. Good luck.

Let us know what you find.
Will the e brake not hold, Will the lever not pull up.
Is one rotor more bluish.
What happens when you jack up the rear and turn each wheel by hand.

I will try what I can do, I am not very handy though so I have to have someone else take my stuff apart. I will see what I can find out.

I just tried putting the jeep in reverse and pulling up the e-brake and it made a clunk and seemed to be working fine after that. I mean I don't think I will be pulling any drifts in it but the noise seemed to go away. I don't ever need to use the e-brake, since the biggest hill here is an ant mound.
