Hi, I'm starting on the first (of many) projects for my new jeep and wanted to get a bit of info first.

You see, I'm working on getting the stereo to make it do what it does to the ipod with that adapter, just want to make it a usb micro jack instead. (I'm referring to the song select and charge)

any detail would be lovely. such as for example, does it mount the info to the stereo to read like it does with many aftermarket models, or does it read the sound directly off the device? (preferably the later)

thanks,

Steve

The USB on an iProduct is intelligent and was designed to facilitate additional control. The USB on Androids (such as my Evo) is more of a client only connection. Meaning that you won't get any control out of any form of USB connection to an Android at this time. 1st or 2nd quarter of 2012, a few name brands such as Kenwood and Alpine are working with Pandora to allow some interpreted control functions, but these are not scheduled in the form of adapters or functions of Android. Instead, a collaboration with Pandora and the stereo brands. For now, you are stuck with AUX input or USB storage of your Android to your H/U, assuming your H/U has those features. I use the Kenwood KDC-X995 and feel it's an overall good choice for flexibility.

With USB no matter what device you are using, if it has mass storage mode, you will be able to control your music and see contents on screen. Basically your phone/media player will act as a USB stick.

This is the reason I like anything Not apple, because apple does not allow Mass Storage.
So if the head unit is not designed to work with apple brand, it just won't work. Or it will need a special adapter, etc.. Basically with any other phone, (and almost all phones have mass storage mode) you just plug the USB and control your music.

For pandora, I use Bluetooth and it works just fine and I can also skip songs directly from my head unit (as long as it has bluetooth version 2 and above)

Why change the stereo. Buy the Isimple and hook it up that way. So much cheaper and easy to hook up.

I would probably get an aftermarket stereo with a rear USB panel, I don't like things sticking out of the front of my players, and it will be similar to any iPhone mount and will display all info as previously stated, but at the same time if I were to do that I would just get a 16-32gb flash drive and just hide it behind the dash and you won't ever have to worry about plugging your phone in every time. Now if you listen to pandora or anything else like that you may have to get a stereo with an aux adapter and just plug into your headphone jack. I may be wrong on that though.
