The lovely wife again dragged me kicking and screaming <wink> to a National Park here is SoCal. This time we headed 2.5 hours north to Joshua Tree National Park. My wife has been through the park in her car but she wants to go back to all the parks in the Jeep now that she discovered the off-road portions that are much better than where the tourists can and do go!

Anyway so here are some pictures. We started on what the National Park service rates as 2/10 trail and it was pretty much a dirt road with some ruts in places. I could have driven a car on 90% of it. We go to the 1/2 way point on this trail and there was a 4/10 trail and we decided to do it in out stock KJ Limited. The wife was worried and I told her we could just turn back if it got too bad for the stocker.

At this point I saw a Lexus SUV about 2 miles up the same road...HA! Game to catch! So off we went down the road. A little worse than the last road but nothing too bad. You just had to watch for the occasional large pointy rock in the dead middle of the road and make sure you slowed and put it between the tires and the transfer cases. So anyway, after about 3 miles we catch the Lexus...and the fun begins.

The wife is starting to tell me to back off and stop because we're too close to them (a hundred yards or less)...she says you come out here to be alone. I explain the group ride thing to her...more than once :) . I also said if the Lexus is nervous they can always pull over and let us go by.

We past three wheelers coming the other way in a group. A wrangler and two blazers. The two guys in the blazers were nice and waved...I'm sure they were laughing seeing that Lexus and probably me on that trail...

Eventually the Lexus let us go by because they were going way slower than us...so we go around them and proceed on our way. After another mile or so we come to the first major obstacle. A bed of loose rocks piled around a large rock. Not very stable and looks to be about all the stocker can handle. We drove slowly and this was the first time I went into 4-wheel drive <grin>. We made it only scraping once. Nice slow bouncey ride. We stop on the other side and took some pictures. The LExus comes down the road, stops and they get out. They look at the rocks and ask if they can make it...I defered that decision to them , no way I wanted any responsibility for that luxury car!

He looked, then decided to turn back HAHAHAHAHAHA

And off we went! The rest of the 10 miles was all downhill (the trail geos from 400 ft altitude to 4000 ft then back down again). There were a few tight places and we hit a few of those road rocks that stuck up but nothing major and we had an awesome time!

Here are some pictures we took on the road. We went by one of the wind farms on the way out which is the first picture. There was about 1000 wind harvesters there...this was just one bank of them.

Let me know when Bennet, your always welcome out here. I'm probably going to join the LOST crew in SoCal as well. More cool stuff to do!

btw, my lovely wife is already planning some trips into the mountains around San Diego since the desserts are going to be way to hot to go into until next fall.
