Sorry, I call B.S. The 242 is just as tough if nit tougher than the 231. JEEP even offered them with 4.7 L V-8 engines in the 1999 - 2004 Grand Cherokees. They were also offered in V-8 powered Dakotas and Durangos. The 4 in the series number actually means a stronger unit that ones with a 3. So...
Just to clarify my other response, I had this happen on a 1980 OLDS V-8 engine with similar mileage. The broken ring allowed the compression into the crankcase which then forced large quantities of oily vapour into the cleaner where the oil formed a puddle.
Just drive it like it is. My old 94 ZJ was rolled on my sons ski trip in 2007. We put in a new windshield, crowbarred the hood and fender apart, pounded the roof up and removed the roof rack. 13 years later and she is still going
Check you evap canister i had similar issues with a 2004 WJ where gas station attendants always topped up the tank. This sends raw fuel down the vapour hose to the charcoal evap canister and saturates it. This then throws a code and mine was running very poorly too. A few hundred dollars and a...
You are making unsubstantiated claims that are quite frankly ridiculous. The 242 J T-case is quite strong. Check out a site with some knowledge on it.

SelecTrac is not heavy enough to handle the manual? Where did you get that idea? Perhaps you meant the manual trans is not heavy enough to support the T-case as it hangs off the trans. Either way I don't believe it. Selec Trac 242 T-Cases were offered in Grand Cherokees behind 4.7 V-8's and 4.0...
I have an 06 Liberty and an 04 Grand Cherokee. I have the same problem although it is more of a problem in the Liberty. I am 6'4" and size 13 feet. Then being in Canada, try it with winter footwear!
I am looking to increase ground clearance a bit whether that is better springs, a lift, bigger tires etc. I joined this forum to gain information as I know NOTHING about the Liberty 2006 CRD and how to gain clearance. I have a lifted ZJ where I used a Rocky Road 4" kit and that is one crappy...
