I don’t remember exactly, because I wasn’t using the ac back in the spring when it quit. I did take the serpentine belt off and it didn’t change anything.
I need to know if it’s worth it to get four cylinders and liners or not. Only one was damaged, but I’m tempted to do them all at once. It would save me $2000 but if I rebuild it and find that they’re down on compression it will have been a waste of time
The 5k was $3500 for the engine, and changing the head gasket, head bolts, rockers, timing belt, and probably glow plugs. And the only engine I found had 145k miles. Unfortunately there were only ever 10000 CRD libertys in the US. There aren’t many engines available so the price is really high...
I just started a new thread to discuss this. Hopefully I can find some answers soon

I have posted about it before, but my 2005 Liberty CRD Limited blew up on April 6, 2024; RIP
I disassembled everything and the exhaust valve in cylinder 2 had snapped marring the head, the piston and the liner. I documented everything and the cost for a full rebuild is about $5700 US dollars...
The engine rattle turned out to be a failed harmonic balancer. Made terrible noise but made no difference to the engines performance. Unfortunately I never found out until after my engine grenade-ed
Does anyone have a thread they can recommend that has info on how to rebuild the CRD engine? Either here or on lost jeeps? I’ve got the engine down to the block, and I’ve just removed the block. I want to find some resources before I open the bottom end
I’ve found that all of the parts are available from Sasquatch parts or IDparts. If I have to rebuild my engine, I want it to last for a long time so I want to build it as best as I can
Are there any concerns about only replacing one piston, liner, and rod, instead of replacing all of them? Will that affects compressions or engine balance? Also where do I find a new crankshaft pulley with an intact harmonic balancer?
I think the head is probably not worth it. I would need to replace all of the valves and hardware as well as get it machined and the new valves set. It looks like the aluminum is pressed into the other exhaust valve and there’s slight warping where the valve pressed into the head. I haven’t...
