That would explain why the CV is able to slide about, and tightening the UCA mounting bolt could explain why I feel movement when hitting bumps while turning left, right?
I'm tired of being afraid to drive my Jeep
With the right side apart and CV out it seems that's the 1AAuto CV is maybe 0.5" Shorter than stock/reman. PLUS the lock ring was not installed on the OUTER intermediate shaft.
Could this be the source of my noise?
Got my remanned CV's and comparing the three that I now have, all LEFT CV's are (damn near) the same length, just shy of 23" compressed. I'll probably return the NAPA reman and leave the 1AAuto one in, only because it doesn't want to come out
The reason I'm doing the CV's again is...
Sounds good, I'll probably take it it just to be safe. Could you confirm that I DO need to buy left and right remaned CV's, or is it only the driver's side that is typically short?
I appreciate all your help Tom!
Reviving this thread after a couple month break.
I've added hockey pucks and extended bumpstops after doing some measurements and quick math.
And more importantly, I've noticed play in the driver's side hub area while cornering or going over bumps. After reading up on it, I believe it's the...
Thanks for setting that straight, I'll get some in there. I guess I'm still not sure why they're needed? The rear springs aren't physically longer, but have a higher k value to achieve lift right? So the shocks should have the same bottom out point as stock, meaning the bumpstop should already...
Hey thanks Matt,
I did not add anything besides the lift and 245/75r16's with a pounded pinch weld. Rides like it's on rails! I have noticed a small power loss with the larger tires, but nothing serious. Here's a photo with the new tires on.
Good to hear noises are normal from someone who knows what they're doing! Yes on the alignment, straight from the jack stand to the shop and picked it up this morning. The sway bar might be coming off when I install new tires then, I'll add it to the pile! Might be picking up a set tomorrow.
I'll check out NAPA and see if they'll take anything. Does the sway bar need to be removed or replaced with a lift? Lots of clunks driving around today, is that normal settling noises after a suspension refresh like this? Also does 245/70r16 sound like it would work with the additional clearance?
Just got it back from an alignment, sitting at 21.5" front and about 22" rear. Pounded the pinch weld while I was under it, and steering doesn't shake anymore, so that's exciting! Now I just need to figure out where to take the Pile O' Parts.
