definitely is, people on that blog were saying the same thing, I know its only speculation but I really hope it doesn't happen. The only good that could maybe come out of it is the diesel trucks, but then again that company already plans to bring the diesel small truck to the US by 2010

<----- Praying this does not happen.

At this rate, I don't think there will be an American car company left in 8 years.

This is just made up news.

Not too many months ago, there was a rumor going around that Ford was to buy Chrysler from Cerberus.

Oh, and tan.. yeah, but those aren't Wranglers. They are CJs. :p

Well guys I feel for you but you have to realise this has happened to UK manufacturers over the last 20 years. Jaguar, Aston Martin and Landrover owned by Ford, Rolls Royce owned by BMW, Bently owned by VW, Rover gone out of business and MG owned by the Chinese!!!!!!

But the fact remains that these names are still considered the essence of Britishness for some reason. Jeep will always be considered American.

Of course it will be. People get all excited about whether a company is "American" or "British" or "Outer Mongolian", and I can't see where it really makes all that much difference, any more. These companies are all so international, inter-mixed, and in-bred that you can't tell where one stops and the other one starts. I once owned a "Mercury Tracer" which was nothing more than a Mazda 323 built in Mexico. So, what was it - American, Japanese or Mexican? And what real difference did it make?

I was always under the impression that Jeep was the strongest performer of the Chrysler brands in terms of profit. I checked some old DCX reports and didn't see a breakdown so I cannot confirm. If indeed that is the case, its kind of dumb to sell your Alpha brand.

What Cerberus needs to do is eliminate the "cloning" between the brands. GM claimed it would cost $200 million to Pontiac-ize the new Camaro so there won't be a Trans Am version. Imagine the money saved in Chrysler did the same instead of the rebranding thats pretty apparent across the lines.

True. Which is the reason why it's not going anywhere. (Unless Cerberus' goal is to completely split up Chrysler... and I don't think that's going to happen.)

Again, slow news day.

I heard from an unreliable source (automotive journalist on the TV) that rumors will not die about Cerberus doing a "strip & flip". I think Nardelli is capable of that. Rumor of a rumor, I know.

Some of that is true, some of it isn't. Pacifica is gone, production stopped last year. It actually wasn't a good seller, only a few thousand per month. Thank goodness it didn't have its own plant!

I heard that too. Kind of scary, being a Dodge owner. But, if Chrysler added a real truck (Ram) to their stable, and the new Grand, Jeep would cover the SUV and truck line. The car line, I don't know and really don't care.
