Don’t worry you few special people, I’m telling in this post not asking.

Apparently Spicer is the only manufacturer of D30A 186FIA gear sets, according to what info I could find. What I could find was on here, arguably the first place a KJ owner is likely to go seeking info.

That being said, I called Yukon today. I sent them an email over the weekend but I was getting a little impatient because I’m ready to order my (last) parts for the new build. I knew my part number by heart because I’ve searched for it numerous times. I recited it to the tech support guy on the other end and gave him my concerns as best I could; different pinion lengths and all that good stuff.

And the poor guy was almost upset at what I told him about the info to be found online......

In his words, do I trust a forum or do I trust the manufacturer’s info? He mentioned he hears it a lot and usually the conversation is over when he hears “forum”.

For the record, Yukon has gear sets for all D30 variants, all with different part numbers. The YG D30HD-410L is listed to fit the KJ (02-07) only.

And now I got a set on the way to me. Hopefully this helps the misinformed.

We shall see, no one but Dana made 4.10s, wasn't worth the effort for any other manufacture to produce them for the D30a
All of the manufactures have them for the 30s that came in XJs / TJs etc

I trust the forums more than manufactures in most cases
Guy on Fakebook trusted a seller / manufacturer and tore his all down going to show us DAs , yes he's still looking for a 4.10 front diff , rears done , the ones for the front he bought and was promised would fit , LOL , yeah didn't
Yes his were listed to FIT a 02-07 KJ as well

BUT good luck

Not trying to start an argument , but I do like a good debate
By the way , those " tech people " are only as good as the information that is fed to them.
I know I worked for Jegs for a while, and man the mistakes manufactures put out there

I’m building a bumper for a mechanic buddy’s 1500 Silverado, he’s done both D30 and D30A gears so he’s gonna do mine. I found an 8.25 from a RWD 2.4L with 110k but I just can’t find a front anywhere. Thought a found one from LKQ on eBay but it showed up with a 3.73 gear tag, I even still checked the revos to be sure. I got in touch with KrisP about their diff a month ago but they disappeared again soon after. This is close to my last option. Omix 16514.44 is another alleged R&P but I’m not sure. Crown 5066085AA is another. I’ve never even seen a Spicer 4.10 D30A set. I think the HD in YG D30HD-410L throws people off, but the L is definitely for Liberty.

What do you mean?

I always thought Spicer was the company, Dana is/are the family of axles they make....

Overall though, I want to point out that I got a good deal on the YG D30HD-410L, over $150 off msrp. Got a spare front diff from LKQ sent by mistake, they told me to keep it and refunded my money for the trouble so I’m just gonna drop it off with the R&P and install kit at my buddy’s. If it’s not the right gear set and Yukon is wrong then we know. If it is and it’s right, then we know we got a viable way to regear using readily available parts. I don’t have much tied up in this, and I can always return the gears if the pinion ends up being D30 length. I’m willing to potentially take one for the team, or pioneer a fix for an ever so haunting problem and hopefully it’s the latter. The parts are on their way and I’ll report back when I can.

And I’ll end with pointing out also that the Yukon tech knew to ask whether I had a KJ or KK when I said Liberty ring and pinion, and definitely knew of their exclusive gear sets different from D30 straight axles.

fingers crossed.

I hope this works out for you as 4.10's have been on my list for a long time and more options are always better.

Thanks for being the guinea pig here too, it's not easy being the one to go against the grain and take risk doing it.

Another way to know is if someone on here had a loose D30A pinion laying around, or knew the length measurement. Then I could compare lengths when the Yukon’s arrive.

OK same company , combined many moons ago
But oh well guess you'd need to live in Toledo to know the full story

Definitely just Dana now though, you’re right. Dana Holding Corp, I was curious so I checked out the wiki page lol

Oh, anyone got a recommendation on an install kit? I’m eyeing the Nitro Gear MKD30-KJ master kit because I can’t find a minimum install kit.

Sorry to everyone that was following this thread, I got transferred out of state for a few months for my job so life has been.....hectic lol.

But I wanted to update the community on what went down as far as the install with the Yukon set. They went right in, no problems. The install was done by an experienced licensed mechanic who specializes in diffs, using the Nitro D30A Master Install kit.

I have not installed the diff in my KJ yet, waiting on a few more parts and also, the time to do it all. But I have been assured that we would have known if the gears were incorrect at the time of install. Pinion lengths matched.

I apologize ahead of time for hurting feelings.

No hurt feelings here, hope they work
Just funny in all the years we begged gear manufactures to start building gears for the D30a , no one wanted to since it was such a small market and no real way to payback for development
we wrote letters, emails, phone calls over the years and nothing
That was back when there were a lot of people wanting them, not like today when hardly any one wants to do one right

Good to hear and very timely! These are only $300 on amazon so I think I'll order a set. Edit: Out of stock on amazon...

Rocky Road outfitters lists Nitro gears for the KJ and I found an old Nitro PDF with part numbers in it for the KJ. I emailed Nitro this morning asking why they do not show them on their website and rocky road lists them for the KJ on their website. Its $1087 shipped for both axles and install kits. After reading so much about only dana making them for the 30a, Im hesitant to order from them. Since you verified the YG working, I may just go that route.

I really wish Marlin at JBA still offered them, very disappointing. Sent them an email this morning and he just said 'sorry, but no, due to the control arms gaining popularity they have streamlined their product offerings.' Didnt they get started with the KJ? Kinda sad they just left it.

Not that I want to buy from them, but they certainly have the best price and its the only place I can find a 'kit' that comes with everything.

Shouldn’t be hard to find a 8.25 with 4.10s, way cheaper to buy the whole axle assembly with the gears already installed. I know of a few people with 4.10 D30As but they’re holding onto them for whatever reason. I got my R&P from the Amazon Yukon vendor if that helps. Might have to do a little searching.

I went ahead and ordered the YG D30HD-410L gears on amazon even though it says out of stock. Says it wont charge me till they are back in stock and ship, Im not holding my breath though.

Junk yards really arent a thing around here so there isnt much hope of finding one local. You can find them on LKQ and ebay but they want you to have a way to unload it and I have nothing to do such.

LKQ is who I ordered my D30A through, they had it listed with 4.10s on the webpage and on the yard tag attached to the diff itself but the gear tag on the bottom bolt clearly said 3.73s.

Just get a buddy to help you unload the rear axle assembly off the freight truck. They’re heavy but my girlfriend’s brother and I yanked one out of a pick and pull in the rain and mud. It’s definitely doable.

Some of us are holding on to the 4.10 diffs we have since we are not done building even more KJs LOL
