02 Liberty with EVIC and push button dome/map lights. I have the unit out and there are two push in type bulbs however I cannot figure out how the heck I am supposed to get a finger in the reflector to pull them out.

The objective was to replace them with LED's but I am now reading that people have had problems with LED's not wanting to go all the way out due to the low load they present to the Jeep.

Help.

Ive had led globes for about 8 months now. They do stay on, very faintly, for a while. I kniw that if I park my KJ at night when I get up in the morning the lights are completely out. I have not had any issues with my battery from this at all. I have red interior lights and the faint glow while driving is barely noticeable.

I replaced both the maps and the rear/trunk lights. YES, they do stay partially on when the engine is running, BUT, they do go out with the key out, when the lights finally decide to kill themselves. I used JDM ASTARs from Amazon.

I can't speak for if they battery drain because I only leave my Jeep unused for 1.5 days a week, and I have a Bluetooth ODBII constantly plugged in.

So I figured out that you can slide the socket for the Map lights out by pushing them to the side and down which allowed me to get to the bulbs and put in LEDS. I replaced the Map lights, the passanger floor light and cargo light.

Testing shows all lights dim and turn off as expected. I guess leaving the driver floor light provides the resistance it needs to dim and turn off. As the driver floor light is less obstructed than the passenger it is plenty bright with the stock bulb. Car running, not running, doors open, etc, all performed as expected.

The only thing that I don't like is the Cargo LED spins in the bulb clasp. As the LED is one sided it could spin around so the heat sink is facing out and that's going to be a problem. I could probably add a bit of solder to the LED ends so they are larger around and not round so I may try that.

LED map light difference, holy crap! You can actually see inside the Liberty now at night. They really didn't put enough interior light in the Liberty (02-04). Back seat is still dark but much brighter than before. I did at one point have a push button LED attached to the side pillar, may look for another one of those. It was similar to the link below and lasted a few years.
