My issue is deciding on what colour to put on the shelf. My interior is that Jeep tan colour, almost like the old olive drab army colour.

I went for a more rugged look. Since this pic, I have added a OBA system that sits on the back left of the rack, Smittybilt GEAR molle seat covers/tailgate cover that I picked up off Craigslist in Reno (while on vacation), a gun vault on the lower right of the rack, and a gun rack mounted to a pet barrier (that I set up between the rack and the back seats). Added bonus of the pet barrier is it keeps all the gear in the back... in the back.

Is that one of those smaller trailer hitch basket carriers sitting on a shower curtain rod? How did you secure it on the seat end of it?

It is the Harbor Freight ATV cargo carrier bolted to a length of 1" steel tube that has been bed-liner-ed and then a rubber cane tip was added to each end. Then cut the front plastic to fit the carrier. Held down front and back with 4 turnbuckles using the cargo tie-downs of the Jeep. Here are some pics. The last one is a promised pic from a while ago.

That shelf is cool and I like your storage on the gate. I have something similar that folds down to a shelf that I made

Thanks I copied the idea from the ones they sell for the Wranglers. I still need to add the plastic edge moulding and to paint the wood grey to match the rear gates plastic.

Finally got around to building a rear cargo shelf. Still a work in progress. Went a different route as I plan on other mods in the cargo area. Did an initial weight and clearance test with the normal items that reside in the back. Weight of the items is approx 60lbs, still have more framework to add.
