I'm not sure if it cracked the engine block, but it's getting all new pullies and everything else forward. The airbag system seems pretty intellgent by what was posted above. Maybe it sensed the extra girth behind the steering wheel. O:) I'm sure they checked the tansmission though. Is there a trans. cooler or an oil cooler in front? It was due for all the fluids to be changed anyway.

It still amazes me that cars are as reliable as they are, with the thousands of parts. I love watching this video that Bennett has a link to on building a KJ.

holy cow! I doubt the block is cracked, all the pulleys probably took most of the hit. I'd have to wonder though, unless its in that massive list of parts and i didn't catch it, if your crankshaft pulley is bent to hell, what shape is the crankshaft itself in?

I argued with the insurance company over this, but they said that it's repairable. The guy at the body shop was saying he never saw deer blood from an incident before. Plus, the vehicle is worth 15k (roughly) and has over 8k in damage. I don't get it.

It's a scary thought, but you might just get little mechanical issues popping up for awhile after you get it back. One other good thing out of this, other than your wife and bay are okay, at least the insurance company is kicking out the money you paid to them all these years instead of just keeping it.

The funny thing is, I switched only a year ago. Unless they jack up my premium after this, I'll continue to stick with them.

They shouldn't raise your rates. My State Farm said it's an act of God and currently they do not raise rates as a result.

You should be fine with the repair job. Your insurance company should guarantee that it's fixed to original standards. Just look it over real close and even have a mechanic take a look at it. I have heard this from my father-in-law who owns an auto-body shop.

Don't ya love insurance companies? My buddy Tom has an '03 Rennie and was in an accident 3 weeks ago which wasn't his fault. The other guy's insurance adjuster finally came yesterday and was going over the jeep and wasn't coming up with the same numbers on damage as my buddy's dealership quote...not even close. So Tom sez, "What's the deal?". The adjuster explains that they canvas salvage yards across the country to find the parts on a wreck where its not damaged and they'll pay for those parts to use in the repairs! Needless to say, Tom was like, "I don't think so pal" To which the adjuster replied,"Well..thats how its done anymore". Again Tom told him that his jeep had low miles, it WAS in A1 shape and he wanted NEW mopar parts on it. Well, the guy hemhawed around for a bit and finally came up with a higher estimate (only because he couldn't find a wrecked jeep with an undamaged front end..yeah..right!) and the check's in the mail. If some jerk adjuster tried that on me I'd superglue antlers to his head throw 'im in a box and ship him to the National Forest in southern indiana during a culling hunt and let grogie take potshots at him. Giggety...giggety..giggety! 8-[ :-$

Wow... I just hit a deer hard today too

I looked at the photos of your jeep and it is amazing that your wife and baby were just fine. :D That is great! I think this just shows the satefy of the jeeps we all own.

I just hit a deer today going about 55mph and I believe the front end damage will be minimal. Luckily the airbag did not go off, as well as with your wife. If so the accident is usually much much worse for the passenger.

I am just really bummed because my 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee is gimp now until I get it fixed. I can't bear a day with out my Jeep (blarg)... gonna suck using a rental for a bit. The rental better be a Jeep.

Holy old thread.

Im confused why anyone thinks air bags should ever pop when you hit something like a deer. It would never cross my mind that an air bag would be needed to destroy a deer. Its all about inertia..

Glad you and your WJ are ok.
