Fastman versus Hipotek - Bored out Throttle Body

Currently waiting for Dan to get back so that I can order a bored out throttle body. In the mean time, found out about HipoTek.

Does anyone know what size the Fastman throttle body is bored out to?

Also, any experiences with Hipotek? Dan seems to have been away for a while this last couple months.

Hipotek uses aluminum for the blade. Fastman uses brass.

Stock diameter of the 3.7 throttle body is fine for the CFM of air it is capable of pumping...

go too big, you'll sacrifice intake air velocity for the sake of volume, only to be choked back down once that air enters the intake manifold... some cars/trucks, yeah, undersized from factory.. but not all. Do the math, measure things and don't just blindly take the word of aftermarket parts makers.

You could also get a used 4.7L throttle body. There is a list of compatible engines on either this site or Lostjeeps. I got mine from a local parts dealer and it works just fine.

Do you have that list? I didn't see it. I posted there a while back on using a 4.7 throttle body and someone said you'd have to drill new mounting holes and everything. I'm in a 2006. I know the 2008+ with the drive by wire were a bolt on... but someone said for the KJ, it would not be.

Yes plus to really get any good lots of other things would need to be done

My 2007 has drive by wire so it was an easy change. From what I read, the intake manifold for the 4.7L is the same as the 3.7- with the extra cylinder of course. There was no extra drilling and all the bolts lined up.

In order to make the bored out throttle body worth it you need to install headers as well.

the problem is they are a pain to install from what i have read. which is why mine are still sitting in their box.

Ah. Yeah the cable throttle bodies do not swap. only the electronic drive by wire ones do.

Someone on this site tried it already with the cable ones. :(

Yep. That would be the goal.

Idea would be...

Keep the stock intake and bore out the throttle body.

Next would be headers and exhaust. Currently thinking JBA (not that there's another options) headers and MBRP exhaust.

Down the line... ATI crank pulley.

Don't plan on getting a lot more power out.... but would be fun to tinker with.

I also have a 2007, was it worth it to upgrade to the 4.7 TB?

Its almost worthless really unless you are doing a computer upgrade, exhaust, headers, new custom cams etc. But by that time its not going to be that much more powerful
Gearing is the best option really for these things

Tune is going to be either with HPtuner or SCT.

Gearing is in the process of being sourced. Hopefully...

Have not looked into cams since I haven't really seen anyone do this yet on the KJ.

Goal is to do this one thing at a time. I'm in no rush. MBRP exhaust will be purchased as soon as eBay has those 25% off coupon days or whatever. Probably same with the headers.

TB is not that much if I send mine back in.
