Hi Guys,
I just bought my wife a 2004 liberty. It snowed up here today and on thanksgiving (Mass.) and im not sure if i have abs. Does the liberty come standard with abs? It feels like the tires just lock up in the snow. It slides straight but i dont here the brakes going. On my chevy van you can hear the brakes lock and unlock and it stops real good. The jeep stops but i dont think it is in anilock.

Any help would be apreciated.

Its a 2004 sport.

Thanks,
Bob

ABS brakes are an option on the Liberty, and most do not have them.
We have an '02 Limited and an '05 Renegade, neither came with ABS.

I'm thinking about getting my wife a set of revo's for Christmas. Just kinda hard to spend the money for tires on an '05.

Welcome to the site, you kind find out a ton of useful stuff here.

It's not hard to if your '05 has P225/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler ST's on it, as they suckkkkkkkkk.

The P235/70R16 Wrangler SR/A's are a great tire....the '02 we previously owned was equipped with them.

Too cold to look, but they are the P225/75R16 size. I may try to shop around and see what I can find.

ABS and Tires

First, I have a 2004 Renegade and it has ABS.

Second, Wrangler SR/A's are mediocre tires for winter driving. They are average on dry pavement and aren't that great in mud. The tread life flat out *****.

BF Goodrich, Cooper, Yokohama all have better ties that cost less.

If you have ABS, when it starts up, you'll see the ABS light on as it's checking the system. The light will then go off, indicating the system is okay. Plus, when you hit the breaks hard, or on a slick surface, you'll feel the brake peddle pulsate. It's very obvious.

My 2004 KJ has ABS, and it was very hard to find one on the lots around Indy with that as an option. I had to custom build my TJ in order to get ABS on it, as it's next to impossible to find a TJ on a lot with it. I like ABS myself... it's fun with a 4x4!

And yes, better tires help over the stocks! Revos are sweet! =D>

My wife's '02 had 5/32nds of tread remaining at 48k miles.....put on the REVO's December 2004 just because I knew winter was around the corner.

I have ABS....you feel a "tap, tap, tap, tap" on the brake pedal as they engage when you start to slide on ice.

That is exactly what I got my wife for X-Mas last year - 5 Yoko Geolandar AT+II & I'm still smiling after a year.

Don't be cheap...Get her the meat...neither one of you will regret it.

I have ABS on mine but when do you really need it? Unless your in lots of slippery conditions or your driving erratically for the conditions then it's good to have. Plus it will cost more to fix and order parts for ABS equipped vehicles.
