I'm looking for info on exhaust - both sounding good & helping with performance/mpg. Does anyone have any input, suggestions? Thank you in advance!!

I like my simple, cheap, sturdy in the rocks, Flowmaster 50 series muffler that cost about $100 installed. I also like the deeper sound it now has. The factory pipes are adequate size to flow and the only real restriction other than the cats is the muffler. It isn't worth the added expense of adding a full cat-back since the pipe sizes are still the same on those.
Toughest part of the process is to figure out how much or what type of sound YOU like then just buy the muffler and have it installed. I know others don't like the FM and chose other brands. My main reason for the FM was they hold up real well when dragging over rocks.

I also have the 50 series SUV and I like it. Its not the deepest sounding muffler but I was expecting that with the 3.7L.

Good day,
What about an exhaust cut out?
Install a high quality muffler, then off road you pull a "lever" (for lack of better terms) and you have a straight through open exhaust.
Sounds really wicked and should liberate a few extra horse power.
(I did on my 1967 390c.i.d. HO Mercury Monterey with dual exhausts, according to a dyno it gained an additional 34 Brake Horse Power. You could feel it on the road as well.)

Cheers

I have a full magnaflow cat back exhaust. once its been broken in it makes decent noise. Iv'e got about 3k miles on mine and dont regret paying 470 for it. The other day i was at a stop sign next to a grocery store, i took off a little hard and was surprised to hear how loud it was. I put a K&N cone filter in and that woke up the engine and exhaust.

The magnaflow only took about 20 minutes to install including taking the old exhaust off.

Good day,

Out of curiosity , how did is sound?
A decently tuned V8 with straight pipes sounds pretty good IMHO.
But I don't know how a 3.7 ltr. V6 would sound. That and the fact that an open exhaust on a KJ might actually lose some horse power.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Thrush turbo muffler and a turndown,$28(muffler+turndown and tax) sounds good and easily replaced when I crush it or rip it off on the rocks.

Its sounded 'ok.' No where near as good as my mothers hemi when I took that off. You couldnt talk to the person beside of you when going down the road in that thing.

I had a vid of it. Ill try to find it.

Edit:Found it. Thats a digital camera so its not the best at taking vid. When rev'ed it didnt really record what it sounded like. It sounded good but its not something I would want all the time. Like you said, a cut out would be good just to be red neck at the red lights while wearing a red shirt.

i love my Magnaflow, After a few thousand miles it wakes up, seat of the pants dyno says i got a few extra ponies,

it was easy to fit in the driveway , and you get the satisfaction of fitting it yourself
