Changed the maf sensor o-ring which was old and squared off with a new o-ring. Idols even better and even better throttle response. Checked all the other houses for leaks and nothing. This engine is running smooth now. It used to rattle like a big block Chevy with an erratic cam when i first got it and changed quiet a bit since. Now it's time for the big mods; 4.10 gear differential swap with disk brakes, arb bumper, renegade fenders and new suspension. All I need to do is buy the suspension parts, everything else is sitting in my garage.

New exhaust is almost done. Just need to buy some new bolts because the new kit didn't come with any and the original ones are too short to fit now. Still, I'm 1 step closer to turning off my check engine light

I drove home behind a Dodge Dakota pickup truck that had the muffler and exhaust pipe hanging by a thread. Luckily it didn’t fall off right in front of me and make me use my newly painted skid plates.

Since my new exhaust is all 1 piece, do you think I should drop the transfer case cradle to install it?
I mean I would? just support the transfer case when you do it.
or you can trust one of these...

I did on the khaki jeep.

it's almost a personal preference.

I'd love to hear about the regear in detail as I want to do that as well.
I'm not going to regear anything, purchased a good front differential with 4.10s from online and rear differential pulled from the salvage from a 4 cylinder 2wd liberty with disk brakes and 4.10s as my 2002 has drums so I'm doing the whole swap. I'm just going to change the seals and drop them in. Next summer when too hot to get out offroad I'm going to do a helical in the front and maybe selectable locker in the rear.

I put in the red Chinese ones off Amazon. Can't speak as to how long they'll last; they've only been in for 1500 miles, but they sure look sexy and she runs on all six.

Bought a box labeled jeep liberty on ebay and it came with a bunch of random jeep parts.
I got the new to me steering wheel cruise buttons and mine where old and faded, spare ac vents just keeping 2 of the 8 that where in the box, renegade tail light guards, rear roof brake light which is good as mine is beat by the sun, and low and behold, it had abra in the box.

This week I enjoyed finding out why suddenly I had to crank repeatedly the car to get it started, instead of the first crank starting it: there was a small fuel leak at one of the electric connectors at the housing of the gas water separator filter in my Liberty CRD. This was losing pressure in the fuel line and therefore continued cranking was necessary to start it. Was able to find a new but old stock filter and housing in eBay, and my mechanic changed it and all was as before. I was lucky to find a diesel mechanic that actually checks the whole motor when you bring the car in. At the dealer, they read the codes and act on that alone, not actually thinking or even checking the whole engine and supporting parts. Had the glow plugs changed as well, as two of them died. Happy now! Ahh, one thing more, replaced with a genuine Mopar part the rear lighter socket, that had burned out from having a Coleman cooler connected for three hours non stop. Live and learn.
This should be a great thread that we can keep going. That way we can all keep up with the small day to day tinkering and give some ideas to those looking to do something! Pics are strongly encouraged!!! (Cheers)

Took my jeep in to the mechanic today so they could look at my exhaust after I replaced the cats last week because I could hear there was an exhaust leak and I wanted them to check the flanges in case I messed up somehow. Come to find out, I've got the dreaded split muffler seam. Got a new muffler ordered but I don't think I'll have time to get it put in before I leave for my wedding. But I guess that's life with a car that's old enough to drink, fix one issue and then another one takes its place

Time to learn to weld. You can get a welder that will do the job for 100 bucks. There's really no excuse not to.

My replacement muffler was less than $50. Also, I know from experience that welding thin metal is a pain

The 2.8 liter CRD can tow 5000 lbs.n Mine came with the trailer hitch and the electric connection. All I added was the trailer brake control which the dealer attached and connected.
