I cleaned the exterior of mine today, and waxed it.

It cleans up pretty well at a distance! Up close it really shows that I have never had a way to park it out of the sun. It’s losing clear coat on the roof in two stripes. I’ve seen other KK’s with this same phenomenon. Any idea why there?

I waxed these areas twice to try and add some protection. Probably needed to wax it more regularly than I have over the years.

I’ve also been working on that silver 04 WJ in the background. It now has a “new” drivers power seat track and I’m in the process of putting the radio back to stock so my in-laws can finally use the OEM 10 CD changer in the trunk. The previous owner had installed an aftermarket stereo that finally gave up the ghost. I’ve also got a gas tank skid plate on order from deadjeep.com. The one on the WJ is barely there with all the rust, and big chunks are falling out. Don’t want the gas tank to leave the chat.

Surprisingly though the uniframe is pristine and rust-free. Not bad for a Michigan Jeep!

That's where the paint overlaps when it's being painted in the factory. The paint is usually thinner there especially on low quality paint jobs.

While you're under there doing the tank skid, I'd hit the entire undercarriage with a hefty dose of Ospho next time you're down there. MAKE SURE to wear ALL the PPE. Shit is literally acid... And it helps stop the tin worm...

Thats a good idea for preventative maintenance, especially in the salt belt. This 04 WJ is in surprisingly good shape for being a southern MI Jeep. It has the normal spots of rocker rust, and bolt-on things like the gas tank skid and the hanger for the charcoal canister are nearly gone, but structurally and mechanically it’s great. It has the legendary 4.0 and only 130k miles. I like to keep it going for my in-laws when I am here for a visit. They hadn’t been driving it because the drivers seat was stuck in the far-back position. Got that fixed. Also got the windshield washer working again where a mouse or squirrel had severed the sprayer tube. And replaced a broken radio too this week. I had DeadJeep ship the used gas tank skid to me in Philly so I can wire wheel it, Ospho it, prime, and paint it. Next time we are out here for a visit, I’ll bring it with me.

I bought a new overflow tank as mine was starting to leak and now I'm waiting for it to cool down to swap it in. changed out a coil that had rust on the inside spring that contacts the spark plug. i noticed it when I changed the spark plugs not long ago and seams to ruin smoother now. Accepted that my skyjacker suspension needs to be replaced as the front is all spring and no shock. Probable 10-15 years old.

Not sure if I mentioned, but I recently bought a stick welder... (yes I already own a few welders but hear me out...) it's new tech, IGBT based... So it weighs 5 pounds.. It's about the size of a lunchbox. It runs on 120VAC, 20amp (if running flat out at 130A). It will burn up to 1/8" rod on house current, and weld up to 1/4" plate.... Here it is....

It was introduced a few months back at $100. I saw it on Walmart last week at 65, free shipping, and couldn't resist....

I have had a receiver extension with an RV mount receiver bolted to it, to provide dual use for my cargo rack and/or a trailer, for a few years now. They were out of alignment and I never was crazy about 4 5/16 bolts holding them together. Cut the flanges off the RV mount today after I replaced my brake lights before I made a run to the Homeless Despot. Been meaning to do this for a while, but cut the flanges off today, giving a good break in to a few of my Ryobi tools I recently bought. Ran out of daylight today, but I will be burning them together tomorrow to give the new toy a workout. If this works as well as the reviews have stated, I may just get rid of the 150 pound Lincoln AC225 that's been in the way for 20 years (expect the few times I needed to use it)

They also have an AC/DC multiprocess machine that's about $800, IIRC. Might get it for a Christmas gift to myself....

Otherwise, mostly rhe day was spent on yard work in the front yard. I let things get out of hand when the weedeater died. Need to order a carb kit for it, but I bought an electric Ryobi today that gives a good half hour on a battery.... And I have lots of batteries...

Wife's AC in the ZJ is working fine now, as is mine.. The boy scored a winch bumper off of a trade-in at work. We will likely be working on installing it soon.

I keep forgetting to TS the failed full speed on my blower motor. It is either the harness at the resistor pack, or the switch gear. Hoping it's just the harness....

Today, nothing to the KJ... other than taking it to the local Dutch Bros for a mocha horchata for my son and I....
But we were looking at replacing the grille support/header panel on her 94 ZJ. Got most of the stuff off of the old one, only to find that the removal/reinstallation of the headlight adjusters (the geared pieces one turns with a screwdriver) are non-trivial to remove... And almost impossible to find. Anyone got info on how to do this? I haven't found a thing on nagca.com, naxja.org, or the Internet at large. Maybe I'm using the wrong terms....

Hey, you're not the ******* who had to have it explained... my kid is 26.

So, I've been kind of second guessing myself on this purchase, as I've recently bought new tech welders in the IGBT space, for both MP Mig/stick and a stick only micro-machine mentioned above- that will weld 1/4" plate. Did I really NEED a TIG machine? No. But it does AC and DC.... I've been wanting one for since before my son was born. Last time I looked they were 1500 for a questionable unit. It's proven. There are people feeding their families with welders from this company....

Looked today... The sale ended last night, and the same exact product is now 25% more... And I don't think the coupon code works anymore either. Struck while the iron was hot.... And it was definitely a good get.... Unless I get lazy and don't use it.

First thing I need to do is fabricate an intake pipe. Pie slices, tack in situ, and then burn it together. Oh yeah... With the triangular waveform, welding razor blades together is supposed to be MUCH easier. Not that I need razors welded together... But I think I might just have to weld a few soda cans together and take them in to work. If I can do that, fabbing intakes and such should be child's play....

Machine arrives tomorrow...in SC from NJ. (LOL, WTF? Amazon isn't even that fast...) did I mention I got free shipping? I have to wonder if someone got fired at Arccaptain letting this out the door....

Meanwhile... Continuing to fight the fridge/freezer issue. Freezer ices up, doesn't defrost, and the fridge warms up. I have replaced the biggest suspects - defrost controller, defrost thermostat (not sure I didn't get a bad one), and defrost heater. The heater came in a genuine parts box, the controller is marked RobertShaw.. Unless they are counterfeit, should be fine. Buying a new defrost 'stat tomorrow, and a refrigerator 'stat as well, from the local appliance parts store. Meanwhile, just bought 2 vertical and 2 horizontal adjusters for the 94 ZJ header panel as we couldn't suss out how to remove them from the old. $160 for 4 (admittedly wierd-ass) bolts. Ridiculous. But got to have them, else there's not much option to install the headlights again except maybe silicon and duct tape... Nope.
