Hey everyone,

A couple of months ago I went to the junkyard and purchased an EVIC overhead console and an outside temperature sensor. I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport with the base BCU currently. I read online (http://alucinari.net/jeep/kj/evic_install/) that you can install an overhead console if you don't have one. The only issue is I don't have the premium BCU. Is the base BCU and premium BCU plug and play? Could I go to the junkyard and buy one from a different Jeep? I heard they possibly store your VIN number on them. If that something I could re-program or would the dealer do it for me? I live in IL, would I fail my emissions test if my VIN is showing up wrong?

Totally fine if I just wasted the ten-ish dollars I spent already. Just a really good thing that I would love to add to my Jeep!

Welcome to the forums.
It's strange that my 04 came with an outside air temp sensor but no EVIC, never bothered to install one. I always believed the Evic should be plug and play.
I wonder if the wiring for the temp sensor may be present. My 04 outside air sensor can be seen directly behind the front grille, off a bit to the right side.
Unfortunately I'm not much help, but hopefully another member may be more familiar.
Possibly a call to the dealer may prove to be helpful, as they can check from your VIN #.
The 2003 electronic vehicle information center information can be found in section in 8M-12 in the FSM.

Thanks!

I'll check tomorrow morning to see if my Jeep has the sensor already. That would be helpful if it does. I would have no idea how to even wire one if it doesn't. I'll read over the manual you sent. Thank you.

Yup.... seems to be that I don't have that installed. Do you have the premium BCU (radio buttons on wheel or factory keyless entry)?

Here is the stuff I got at the junkyard months ago. The temperature sensor is one of them.

To install the sensor, it looks like the BCU somehow (guessing it would be the premium BCU)... I think by this diagram it is saying 15 and 18. (P. 904 / 8W-45-7 http://www.colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/2003JeepKJServiceManual.pdf)

Only Yes to the key less entry portion. No steering radio controls.
Bill Our electrical specialist, may chime in soon.
In the meantime I'd be calling the dealer to see how possible this may be.

You should be able to switch to the premium pcm by getting a used one and having it programmed to your vin.
