Just picked up a second KJ for our second daughter. Was delivered last night and fired right up when unloaded from the trailer.

Started right up this morning and took it to the local tax collector to get it registered. Ran a coupe of errands afterwards and then began to have a little trouble starting while going around town. (Engine warm from driving around town, run into store for a quick errand, come back out and have trouble starting.)

Had to lightly feather the gas pedal to get it to start. Idled and ran fine though.

Waited until this evening, went back out for a cold start, and it fired right up.

So, does this point to a TB and IACV cleaning and /or replacement??

    Thanks for any insight.

My 02 did something like this for the 10 years I owned it. It always did start though. Haven't noticed it with the 05 in the 10 months I've had it. Wouldn't hurt to clean the IAC and TB but doubt that's it. I think there are a few threads on here describing similar issues but don't recall a good solution. Maybe it sat a bit and needs some exercise or good gas and some Techron.

Thanks. I tried to get through a number of those threads before asking, but it wasn't entirely clear to me. A tank of good gas and some Techron seems like a good idea either way.

Not sure if its applicable, but I have an XJ and they are notorious for this issue - its called heat soak. The gas in the injector rail gets too hot after your turn the motor off when there is no active cooling and the gas vaporizes. Its similar to the old 80's phenomenon of vapor-lock, but isolated to the fuel rail. The fix is easy: wrap the rail in reflective insulation. This solves the problem on XJs. I haven't had my KJ long enough to know if this will be an issue for that, but it could be and I don't see that it would hurt.

Who knows if the right spark plugs are in there. The gaps could be eaten too!
I replace the plugs every 25 k miles.

I would clean the IAC and associated ports for starters.
Good premium gas and a hwy drive with Chevron Techron Concentrate will blow dust out.

My KJ does it a few times a year, always has. Not sure why, whenever I've tried to replicate it, it works just fine.

The coils might also be a consideration.

Well I've been paying close attention to this for a week or so and my 05 definitely does not do this. My 02 did it all the time to the point I thought it was not going to start. I'm baffled.
