Transmission in my 2011 is shot - will one from 2005 work?

2011 Jeep Liberty....Dealer says no, different part number, but both are 42rle...does anyone know what the difference might be? Wiring harness? Computer compatibility?

In 2011 everything is computer controlled even the throttle. Back in 2005 the throttle (and I’m betting the transmission) was cable-actuated.

Ya best to find another KK trans from a 2011 if at all possible.
KJ's would be way different in electrical.

^^^ Agree. Even within the KK the 11-12 use a different computer system from the 08-10’s so get a replacement from an ‘11 or ‘12.

These transmissions seem to be plentiful and cheap. Car-part dot com has several in my area (Omaha) for 200-300 bucks.
