Hey guys,

Are there any real advantages to 265-75-16 inch M/T R's tires over 245-75-16 M/T R inch tire size?
Are you really gaining anything by the extra inch of height and 20 mm width for the amount of added lift required to fit them as well as the added wear and tear on the drive train?

Just curious!

Some will say the extra height will get you across rocks easier
others say with the tire placed right on those rocks you could still make it over
You can go round and around all the day

From 500 foot away deep in the mud or at 75 rolling down the highway its hard to see what size they are :happy175:

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
If your playing in the rocks(IE boulders) that extra 1/2" clearance the 265's gives can make or break you.In muddy terrain or small rocks(basketball sized or smaller) there is really no advantage.

I find that even 33 to 35 makes little difference
and the 35 gives a full inch more
Do I drag more than a guy with 35's sure
Does it hurt any thing ,depends
Now granted our rocks are different but they are mixed
with the dirt and tend to move easy
The trails change often

Now I'm on the fence as far as 32's are concerned...

With 4:10's and 245-75's the gearing feels perfect!

Going to 32's, I'd think that 4:10's are to high again (Like 245-75's and 3:73's) and I'd be back to square one and need/want to go lower; like at least 4:56 if not lower to get back the power/torque. (And needing a JBA Steel diff housing to make that work.)

I think we'll just go out and enjoy our Rig for the rest of the year before I dump any more major cash into the truck...
Except for the Ruby crawler of course!

I borrowed a set of 245-75-16s on Soft 8s a couple fo weeks ago to do an experiment
and yes I think that size and 4.10s is perfect for what I do.
There are a lot of times when I am on hills and stuff that I think "if I just have a little lower it would be great"
I'm on the fence as to my next step , back down to 245-75s, JBA steel diff and lower gears or what

If it were me I would be looking to regear
Yeah it cost more but knowing how tall the od gear
is in the KJ ,all trans options, you could easily put
4.56 maybe even 4.88 depending on how many
highway RPM's you can live with

how do u like your Duratracs Tom?
best tire I've ran for a while, 100 times better than the BFG ATs I had on before.
This set has 38,000 miles on them, and measured today 12/32 of treat left. So they have worn off 6/32s in those miles. Do great in the snow, wet roads, ride good, mud they do good, they are not close to a full on mud tire but still hold their own.
I'd buy another set of them tomorrow ( If I didn't have a set of Mickey Thompsons Baja MTZ's waiting to try next)

Yeah, 4:56 gears would be great.
I doubt that the majority of the stock IFS components would handle that low a gearing for harder off road use and larger tires!
By the time you upgrade to custom made front axles with RCV CV joints, a custom made intermediate shaft, and JBA Steel front differential housing
(Not to mention modification/alteration to the current offerings of aftermarket upper control arms to put the ball joint in a better position so that the ball and socket has a better range of movement and the A arms have a more horizontal/stock position so they don't hit the coil spring) the over all cost would be quite high.

I personally think that that money would be better spent going to a solid front axle setup.

I agree

You must be registered for see images attach

I was just looking at RCV and called and asked them about these out of curiosity for the KJ.

Yeah, $2495.00 a pair.
Add $1500.00 for a steel diff
Longer coil springs and shocks $300.00/$500.00+
Miscellaneous parts and accessories $500.00+
-----------------------------------------------
$5295.00

That's just in parts alone. Not to mention little bits and pieces are extra!

By the time you get it all together...

SFA BABY! ;)
