Questions on Liberty head

Hi all. New member. So my wife a few years ago overheated the engine on a trip to Walmart after telling her to check the coolant multiple times. Seems these radiator mounts on top of radiator were a bad design. It’s part of the radiator’s endcaps and it’s plastic and that’s where the crack was. Anyways she never listens and ended up blowing the head gasket and I refused to fix for the longest time. So during the last year I started buying parts for a total rebuild and am just getting around now to working on it. I was having horrible time trying to find a compatable passenger head. It’s a 2004 liberty sport. So I ended up getting a new bare cast head off eBay in 202. Fast forward to now. After lapping valves and cleanup, I went to assemble and noticed the exhaust valve springs won’t fit in the machined boss seat they’re supposed to sit on. Seems the machinist didnt allow enough space for the cage that is attached to the bottom of these exhaust spring. The boss is the same size as the intakes. Now I know there must be a reason they engineered these cages to go on the exhaust spring, but not the intake spring. The intake and exhaust springs seem to be identical. Does anyone know the purpose of the cage that sits at the bottom of the exhaust alive spring? My only option now is either use intake springs in place of the caged spring or have the machine shop remove the valve guides on this new head and machine the boss wider to accept the caged springs. Thoughts?

Although the components appear to be the same except for the valve and valve seat.
