Picked up my 07 not even two weeks ago, and already making plans for my build...

Right now, here it is:

I'm breaking my build up into 3 basic stages:

First stage will be preparing for a lift/required maintenance. Basically here I plan on doing all of the require tune-up type maintenance, the big one being a transmission flush and fluid/filter change. Also going to change ALL fluids and flush the coolant system, do spark plugs and brakes, and save money for stage 2.

Stage 2 likely won't be for another year so that I can pay off other bills and save up to do it all at once, but my plans as of right now are for an OME lift and new wheels/tires. Planning on this OME lift from JBA (JeepinbyAl.com - Detail1 - OME-KJ-1.5-3.7-HD-L - OME 1.50" lift kit - Old Man Emu Suspension Products - Jeep Liberty KJ (2002-2007) - JeepinbyAl.com), Cragar Soft 8 in 16x7 w/ 4" BS, and 245/75/16 Goodyear DuraTracs or BF Goodrich A/T's. Also going to do bump stops and probably some more supporting mods for the lift (open to suggestions), and want to get a HyperTech programmer to reprogram my speedo for the larger tires (I'm really **** retentive about my speedo/mileage being correct, so it is worth the $300 for me).

Stage 3 will be ongoing mods. Going to keep it simple here. Plan on doing Line-x on the body plastics and rockers, a better roof-rack with steel (vs stock plastic) bars, maybe a basket/lights for up there, and possibly a locker.

I'm thinking stage 1 should be under $500 total, spread throughout the year. Stage 2 should be around $2500 if I don't get a matching spare wheel/tire (can that be mounted on the tailgate?) or $300 more if I do, assuming I haven't forgotten anything. Stage 3 has no real budget since it will be ongoing improvements as I figure out what I need as time goes on. I'll keep pictures posted as I do everything...I like that this site has a section dedicated to this kind of thing. Kudos to Jeep KJ on the Members' Journal section.

I'm open to all suggestions...be easy on me, I'm a noob :)

That sounds like a really good plan. That's basically what I'm doing except my first and third stage are somewhat mixed together. I'm only getting cheap upgrades for right now though since I'm slowly saving up my funds for the more expensive ones like a lift and new tires.

Sounds good. I'd really like to do some of the 3rd stage stuff sooner, and wait until this time next year (tax time) to lift and get new tires, but maybe I'll get lucky and be able to lift it in November or so. All depends on how soon we can get some other bills paid off and all that good stuff. Either way, I'm already enjoying it and it is capable enough to have enough fun off road as-is.

Side note - How does your exhaust sounds with that glass pack?

The glasspack sounds amazing. Much better then the stock muffler (not that a glasspack is really a muffler anyway:Big Laugh:)

And yes it is very capable offroad! Only got it stuck once and that was in a deep ice pit.

Might want to check out that hypertech programmer again. I just checked it for your year and it says nothing about being able to adjust tire size.

From their website:

Adjustable Features

•Top Speed Limiter 25 - 75 MPH in 5 MPH increments, 81 to 255 MPH to match speed rated tires
•Rev Limit -500 to +500 RPM
•Cooling Fans Stock, 180 degrees F, 195 degrees F
•Return Back To Stock
•DTCs Read and Clear
•Internet Updateable

Well ****...Thought it said that it could when I checked. Any idea how I can adjust for tire size?

I know on the earlier years (02-04?) you can do a pinion reset to set the speedometer. I'm not sure it would work on a 2007 though.

I had it done on mine at the dealership, it only cost $35.

As I drive it more, I'm rethinking my plans...

Wanting to do just a standard OME lift and some type of 30" tire on 15" Cragar Soft 8's. Also want to do the full skid plate setup from JBA.

I've had an amazing amount of fun in this thing stock, but don't want to mess with all the problems that come with putting too large of a tire on (30" isn't even an inch larger than stock, so I should be good on shifting/speedometer issues). Plus it's a DD. I'm sure my mind will change 100 times by next year when I actually start working on it, but that's where I stand right now.

Keep your stock wheels and go to 245/75-16s. Also, ThunderbirdJunkie demands pictures of your namesake.

I'm to concerned about going to a 31" tire without regearing, which is something I do not want to do any time soon...and I mainly want the different wheels to make the stance a bit wider.

Namesake?

Nah it's not a reference to a 'Stang...wish I still had my 04 though. It's my job in the Army, 92F aka Petroleum Supply Specialist aka Glorified Gas Station Attendant (I can't make this stuff up).

Like I said, I'm sure I'll change my mind many times in the next year when I have the funds to work on this thing how I want lol

The Jeep is on the back burner now...going to do the skid plates and better stock sized tires and leave her be most likely. I got a 2011 Mustang GT and the Jeep is the wife's DD now so we won't be lifting it any time soon. Still going to wheel it as hard as ever though...th wide had really fit to enjoy off roading and my kids love it lol.

Yeah took a bit of a loss on it but got a good enough desk on the Stang to make it worthwhile. The wife missed my 04 GT more than me I think LOL

I run 31x10.50x15 Nexen Roadian M/Ts and it pulls them fine on and off road in 2wd and 4wd. And my speedometer is accurate still. 3.73s can run up to 32s fine at least that's what my tire size to gear ratio chart says that I got from Firestone.

Im about to take over the jeep as my DD again, so time to start getting ready for mods...

First, need to fix a couple things I've been putting off:

There is a bunch of water pooling on the drivers floor, haven't looked into the cause yet since I've been out of town for a month.

Need to fix the radio antenna, it broke off in a car wash

Need to change the fluid in front and rear diffs and transfer case.

Need to get the transmission and cooling system serviced and fix my engine oil leak.

After that's all sorted, going to get a CB radio, some nice Cover King Kryptek seat covers, better roof rack, and a better stereo.

Later on, once my tires are worn out and need replacing, going to do a small lift and bigger, more aggressive tires. Nothing crazy, just something mild.
