Please tell us what brand you replace the switch with. I need to do the same thing. The part time light has been on in my '07 for as long as I can remember. When I look online, I see prices from $33.99 (rock auto, unspecified brand) to $98.37 (Mopar).
Right. I'm seeing $70-100...I'll live with the light. Rock auto? Heard of but never been. I'll check into for 33 bux. Thanx for the tip.
Thank you

Just heads-up. That switch depends on whether or not you have command trac (4 position) or select trac (5 position). I would suggest going with the Mopar unit. You can install it from underneath by reaching over the trans FYI. About a 1 hour job but make sure you've got a large enough wrench 24mm as I recall.

It can also be done from the cabin - pull off the trim around the shift and go down the left side - easy from there.

My daughter's KJ has this issue. Beyond the dash light, is there any other consequence of this switch failure? Is the 4WD system engaging differently? What is this part-time mode anyway? Does the 4wd engage automatically in 2wd mode when the wheels spin? I drive an XK with full time 4wd high and selectable 4wd low.

That's the route I took. Easy peasy. Thanx

I went Mopar. No issues months later.

Sounds like you're pretty new to the world of 4wd and I would suggest you read up on how Jeep's (older) 4wd systems work before you pull any 4wd levers... But here's the gist: PT means that the tc locks the f/r drivelines evenly in 4hi mode. Meaning, it should only be used in circumstances with slippery conditions and you don't need the gearing of 4low. I.e. mud/snow/sand, etc. with little hill climbing, etc. No, this isn't an automated 4wd or awd system. And that's the beauty - you have more control + there's less to go wrong. But that also means that you, as the driver, must anticipate driving correctly for the road/off road conditions.

Lastly, since this is a mechanical system, the switch does nothing but illuminate your dash to inform you of the current 4wd position. If you pay attention to the lever's position, you don't need it but in the case that you might forget, then it could be the difference of a blown tc, or not.
