This is the parking lot thread, and I did this today in a parking lot, so here we are.
Note the refurbished & newly installed horizontal propane tank!
It tucks right up under there like it was made for it. Super excited. Now I’ll have propane for my kitchen stove without having to use the 1 lb Coleman bottles that cost $5 a piece for $0.70 worth of propane.
Here’s the kitchen setup from my last camping trip.
Winter camping around Dec 14 or so.
The next phase of the build is to install this Propex heater and run a gas line to the new tank.
The tank is originally from a 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia camper. The guy I bought it from installed a newer bigger tank on his rig. This tank has a 3 gallon capacity (10 lb. of propane). Not quite as big as your average 5 gal barbecue cylinder but travels a lot better.

That was quite a project. A lot of work. But there is always a greater satisfaction knowing you did it yourself.

From a military chassis to where it is today, you certainly now have the best home made trailer I've ever seen!

With the new propane tank, any estimate of how many hours of future heat you may have available?

The Propex heater is supposed to be able to run continuously for 3 hours on each pound of propane (30 hours run time on my tank). But since the Propex is on a thermostat and my trailer is insulated, I would hope for about 5 days worth of heat. Any propane that is used for cooking would make this number smaller. It will be an interesting experiment to do once the heater is installed.
I got one of these to keep track of the propane level in the tank.

I got my trailer’s Propex heater installed and running today. Actually it took several days: one for the electric, one for the propane & exhaust pipes, one for the heater installation through the floor, and one to dial everything in and get it firing reliably.
