Ok to swap 16" and 17" factory wheels between years?

Sorry for the newb question. GF has a 2006 with 17" wheel and very bald tires. Just found a 2002 with 16" wheel and brand new tires. Has a blown engine and owner wants $400 bucks for it. Figured it be cheaper to buy and just swap the wheel / tires. Just want to make sure they will fit ?

Yes as long as the 16" wheels have 235/70R16's or 225/75R16's.

I have also wondered this b/c for some reason it seems like it's harder to find 17" wheels/tires for my 2007 Limited...good to know!
