This morning I drove to Guaymas Home Depot without issues. I come out and no crank. The battery is good (lights strong) Check the 40 amp fuse and relay (swap relay) under the hood. I got under the car and with a screwdriver shorting the solenoid nothing but if I short across the solenoid the starter motors. I figure the solenoid was bad. I buy some tools and watch a short video and pull the starter. Hail a taxi and have the starter repaired.
I install the starter (top bolt still loose) and no crank but now if I short the solenoid terminal the starter engages and starts the Jeep so I could drive back to the Marina.
What could have gone that my key won't crank the starter? more fuses? I tried the shift lever in neutral and no difference. It's now beer thirty and I'll tackle it in the morning with hopefully some suggestions.

Blinking red light in the dash cluster?

Do you have a scanner to check for any DTC codes?

Yes, I have a scanner and the only codes were for EGR delete. After back on my boat and more Google searches I found several videos on the ignition actuator and my ignition switch was performing exactly as the video demonstrated, weak start spring return. This morning I ran a wire from the solenoid up by the battery so I could touch the positive to engage the starter, Drove to O'Reillys and no stock but Autozone had one kit in stock. It is Dorman 924-704 and also came up for a 2010 Hyundai. It fit the Jeep and solved the problem.
Thanks for your reply.

Will it spin the starter over now after replacing the starter solenoid at the starter by jumpering it at the starter relay?
*Remove starter relay in the TIPM fuse box under the hood and jump pins 30 to 87 or battery positive (+) to terminal 87 and see if starter spins the engine over and engine starts.
(Ign. Key in the “ON/RUN” position, transmission shifter in PARK)

If engine starter motor spins over and engine starts, there are several possibilities of the problem:
  • Fuse #8 or #87 is blown. Test fuses with a 12v test light or a voltmeter. Replace Fuse if defective.
    >(Just looking at a fuse will not 100% verify status or condition, must test fuse with multimeter or 12v. test light to verify actual condition)
  • ^Ignition Switch actuator rod is broken or bent or electrical ignition switch itself is defective. (watch video, see link below)
    • Replace Ign. Switch actuator rod or electrical ignition switch. (Problem solved?)
  • Bad Starter Relay, you can try swapping relays with one of the other same size relays.
  • Swapping Starter Relay allows starter to spin & engage from ign. Switch.
    • Bad Relay, Replace Starter Relay. (Problem solved?)
  • Starter still does not spin over with different relay in place.
  • Loose wiring connector or broken wire between ignition switch and starter relay connections in TIPM.
    • Repair as needed.
  • Or bad or loose connection inside the TIPM fuse panel to one of the terminals going to the starter relay.
    • Repair as needed.
  • *ECM not getting proper signal/input from Brake Pedal, or Gear Shift selector position.
    • Repair as needed.
  • Wire chafing problem behind the fuel filter assembly causing short to ground, broken wires, or cross connection between circuits. (06 Models Only)
  • *Security System has locked out starter system. Bad key or transponder.
    • Try a different key or have a new key programed and try it.
    • Replace key or transponder
