need advice 05 renny rack owners

I was mounting my yakima lowrider crossrails and basketcase today. in order for the basket to fit (longways), i had to move the back cross rail and mount it on the cut out in the back where the silver and the black part of the renny bar meets. is this safe? it feels sturdy and solid and it fit right in that larger cut out perfectly. just need advice if anything should even be mounted there in that black part of the bar.
