Hello all, new member here,
I have recently purchased my first Jeep, a 2005 KJ (yes, I know my username says KK, I fat fingered my phone keyboard and mistyped while making the account). It was a base model 2.4/NSG370/RWD car. However, the person I bought it from swapped a turbo 2.4 EDT from a Dodge Neon SRT-4/PT Cruiser GT. The different engines must have the same bolt pattern, because they went together without a hitch (I didn’t see an adapter plate or anything), and the car moved just fine until I lost clutch pressure and it stopped going into gear (I plan on doing slave & master cylinder next weekend).
However, after purchasing I did a little research, and I found that the NSG370 and its strength are pretty hotly debated within the Jeep community. If it struggles to stay together under stock power, I feel a little uneasy about how it will perform once I start romping on it (after upgrading the fuel system and wiring an aftermarket ECU, both of those are stock and the stock ECU won’t be able to read that much air intake).
This brings me to my main point: what are my possible transmission alternatives? I know these came with the NV3550 before the NSG370, and that they (in theory) should bolt up the same as the NSG. However, if I needed something stronger, what would the feasibility of something like the NV4500 be? It isn’t even registered right now (and I don’t plan on doing so for a while), so I’m in no rush, but I would like to see what I can do with this thing in the future.
Thank you all in advance, I will attach few pictures of it so you know I’m not just making all of this up or anything.
