What are the differences between having ram air vents that force air into the hood while driving, or louvers that vent hot air, what is more functional to reduce engine temperatures?

Louvers would reduce engine bay temperature, not sure how they're installed exactly, I live in a cold climate so figure I shouldn't have them, someone chime in if im wrong cause they look cool

Generally " ram air" forces air into the engine compartment for better breathing of the engine ( if set up correctly)
Louvers are to vent hot air out of the engine bay
Two totally different things
I have hood louvers, Pontiac GTP hood louvers as a matter of fact :icon_lol:

Your grille is taking in air when you're moving. To move air out of the engine bay, you would want louvers, or remove the cowl to hood rubber seal (not as good an idea in wet weather conditions). Or the "cool" thing we used to do in the 70's, shim/adjust the hood hinge to raise the back of the hood. Again, that breaks the weather seal, and gives the hood a mis-fit look (but intentional). ;)

Just a note: My cowl to hood seal was removed in 2005, no issues to date
sits in the rain, gets washed at least once a week etc

Good to know. Was air flow aids the reason you removed your rubber, or was it all dried and cracking from age or lack of use?

Was only about 5-6 months old when I removed it,
I weighed it and after factoring in the weight, I decided I could add a full set of factory skids and they would weigh the same amount :happy175:

I just don't think it's a good idea to remove it, throws the whole weight distribution off, UNLESS you also cut about 1ft of weatherstrip from the strip around the cargo area. It'll feel different, but after 7 years I'm almost used to it.

Mines still on and with the added weight of the louvers the front springs are starting to sag.

Just had to :beatdeadhorse5::beatdeadhorse5:

Lay them out where you want them
apply several layers of tape to the area
cut a hole in the hood
( use jigsaw/ grinder whatever you fancy to cut holes in metal)
Easy enough to do, or at least thats how I've installed a few sets of GTP hood lovers in KJs/ XJs etc
Heres installing them on Larrys 02 KJ
