I wanted to call it a cardboard covered in something hood liner.
Mine is so dirty and mud stained. Besides saying take it off..
Any ideas how to scrub it or recommendations on how to clean it in place?
I suppose the best method would be a carpet type suction shampoo thing like what a detailer has. Dont have one of them so now what?
Last time I power washed the liner all the dirt ended up in the engine bay.
This time I am going to cover the engine bay with plastic before I clean the hoodliner!
Any thoughts appreciated...:icon_lol:

I've heard at car shows and stuff people talking about using stuff like Armorall or any other brand Tire Foam and it coming out looking brand new again. I can't vouch personally though. I don't think I've ever once given mine much of a thought honestly.

This is causing small particles to stick and cover the top of alternator making it look corroded. Dealer want $108 for a new liner..still available + the plastic clips.
I am thinking a trim shop my be able to cover it with new material that would be washable, which would be great!.

Yeah, cheapest I've found so far is about $80. not much better. Wonder if it could just be removed and done with.

Mine has been gone for 50-60k ... no heat/paint issues that I can see. It might let more noise out of the top of the engine bay

If mine looked that bad, I'd remove it and call it a day. The primary function of the hood insulation is for sound deadening (lowering engine noise in the cabin). Secondary benefits can be heat retention for warmer re-starts in the winter, but that also means under hood heat retention in general. Some myths say the insulation protects the hood paint from damage from engine heat, but in the many years and tons of vehicles I've had (and not just me) with no hood insulation, paint was never damaged from the engine. Something else to keep in mind, if you ever have an engine fire, a nice oil soaked chunk of hood insulation can feed the flames quite well.

Hood Liner Now Clean!

Ok it was a bit of work to clean the hood liner here is what just took place...

At power wash facility with a heavy duty vacuum..I carefully Vacuumed the liner...
Then into hand power wash bay, soaked the hood liner carefully not too close.
Then once wet, I used car wash soap and rubbed in by hand all over the soap.
Then rinsed out the soap/power wash again. To get water out, hands used to push water down/off the liner.
Then Re-Vacuumed all the remaining water out of liner to let dry.
Looking much better ... more time needed to dry...

Just begun to do some paint work now on suspension areas too...

Here in Canada the Best Rust Paint is Tremclad. I have found the High temp stuff for BBQ sticks like crazy and rust often does not come through easily.
With high temp areas, you know it is not going to flake off either...

After the hood liner dried, a few tears needed repairs...

So with a few dabs of white glue which will dry clear, it held together well considering the harsh cleaning it just underwent.
