I have and 04 with 4 wheel disc brakes on which I am doing a brake job on. I finally got off the rear rotor after much kicking and pounding only to discover one of the parking brake shoes lost its pad.

Anyone who has replaced the parking brake shoes, is it really required to remove the rear axle? I would really love to avoid that as I just replaced the rear differential fluid under 3k miles ago.

Thanks

I replaced them on my 03 kj and didnt have to remove the rear axle. they went on just like a drum brakes assembles. After that I put the rotor on, the caliper and was done. I think its the same setup as a 03, but someone correct me if I am wrong. hopes this helps.

Appears I was misreading the FSM....well wrong section which covered the support plate on the back side of the setup.

FWIW this parking brake setup is stupid.
