I am frustrated, just looking at this poor Renegade. Photo taken this AM. I guess some owners just don't care to wash or protect their KJ. Probably a salted highway commuter that just don't care. (sad)
Neighbor rolled down their drive across the street and down my drive. Fortunately my garage stopped the progress. Lots of potential energy converted to destruction.
I did not realize your place was a drive thru! Can I get Big Mac and a re-construction crew! Brakes did not hold, the car rolled back-manual transmission I take it?
Exactly. Manual transmission, started it, ran back inside for something, parking brake didn't hold, rolled backwards about 120' down two pretty good hills. Probably doing about 30mph at impact. You'd have to see the topology of my neighborhood to appreciate the impact force. His 2012 Subaru was totaled. My project car will live on...
So where were you when the impact took place? I'm trying to imagine the volume of the crash and what might have happened if your car was not parked there. Got a pic of what is left of the Subaru? How much damage to car & garage?
It was about 4AM. Never heard a thing since I use a sound machine when sleeping. Didn't find out until about 7AM. Note from the Sheriff's deputy in the door. Pretty sure the car would have continued right through the side of the garage if my big old boat wasn't there. That thing weighs a lot!
I cant believe you never heard anything, was the Subaru still there when you woke up? They left a note LOL !!! What did the Sheriff note say?
The Subaru was back up the hill in the neighbor's drive. It is a mess! The Sheriff's note was basically a police report with a case number and all sorts of insurance info. We have the same insurance company as the neighbor. Not sure that's a good thing at this point. I'm still amazed I didn't hear it. I am usually not a very sound sleeper. We've known the neighbors for a long time. They're good people. It could have been much worse! It missed three good vehicles and hit my project.
Yes this could have been much worse, luckily no one was injured. Considering the car was left running and rolling back, there was no fire. Somehow I think while you were sleeping, your nighbourhood had many flashing lights. Your place was light up with un-welcome visitor. For Christmas your neighbor needs a solid wheel block in the very near future. Without the project car, I'm still trying to imagine what may have happened. I think that Dec 2019 is going to be remembered for a while at your home. Get a pic of the Subaru, I'm so wanting to see what happens when plastic meets a tank! Insurance will look after you soon!
We've had the insurance adjuster come and look at the vehicles and that's all settled. Just waiting for another adjuster to have a look at the garage. The garage has some pretty good damage but is boarded up for now. Apparently the adjusters are very specific. They are not exactly impressing me in this regard. Not sure why the delay since this happened last Tuesday. My wife's van was in the other bay, my 18 Rav4 was just off to the right and my Ranger was next to the Rav4. I only have a few gallons of gas in my project. It does run and drive but not road worthy yet. Amazing there wasn't any fire. Memorable week for sure...
I hope you are able to resolve any issues regarding garage estimates. The garage should be better than new after construction. You may have to get your own contractor estimates involved for garage damage..?
Yeah we have a contractor ready for an estimate. Need the insurance assessment at some point though. It'll work out but what a week.
I'm sure. I was trying to be child-friendly. I also said more colorful words, but only my husband and the cats heard me. My husband came up and looked at the pic and agreed with my more colorful words...
