I recently rear-ended a chevy tahoe. (It was icey out)
I'm wondering if any of you could help out with the damage - what was damaged? how much should it be to fix it?
I posted pics to help - I'm just looking for estimates, and whether or not I should even try to fix it.

Wow.......I hope no one was hurt.

I think you need a body shop to give an estimate before you decide what to do.

Insurance????

Well from my house it looks bad. Hood, fender, front facia, unkown underhood damage, that's right off the top, unknown drivetrain axle damage, rough guess is 6-8 G's. Maybe the insurance company will total it. I don't think the parts are that bad, it's the GD labor that kills us these days.

Poor jeep, they don't stand much of a chance against a tahoe, although try putting a smartcar in its place ;)
Hopefully no one was hurt..
It looks like it could be close to a total...

-Yes I have full coverage, they're just taking forever to tell me if it's totalled or not.

-I'm not driving anything right now, kinda scared to get behind the wheel again

- Yes it is driveable.... it just leaks fluids. ALOT of fluids.

- it was an avalanche, not a tahoe.
and someone asked for pics of the other car..
He just spun out into a ditch- his rearbumper was dented.

So sorry this happened, especially this time of year. The steel can be repaired. I also hope no one was hurt.

I did not want to comment, but after looking at your tires, they do not look like much tread, or winter traction tires. What kind of tires did you have on your KJ?
Tires are everything in winter road conditions. All seasons do not allow traction, or very good stopping , without sliding around.

Yes my tires are kinda low on tread, but funds are low. I was going to replace them after christmas. And my brakes were low also- with about 10% left

I think the Smart car would be just the same but you would open the door and walk away from that too. They are SOLID and you are more likely to be hurt in a Toyota. DON'T bag the Smart...they are engineerd by Mercedes Benz who know a thing or 2 about safety;) And, Smarts are used on the Autobahn in Germany etc at 130km/h + and people walk away from the few accidents they do have.

Now, for the Jeep...it sure as hell would'nt be written off here!! NZ$4-5k (thank you Mr insurance Co) would have it back on the road in 2 weeks.

Good luck. Hell of a Christmas present tho..

My 10c.....
