So I'm more curious than anything else. I have always used conventional 5w-30 because my mechanic changes the oil for $30 with conventional. But, since winter is coming I had an idea that maybe mobil 1 5w-30 would be better for cold starts. And following that logic would 0w-30 mobil 1 provide even more protection for the winter?

I'm in NY by the way so we get the four seasons but I'm not in Alaska or anything. Does anyone use synthetic or 0w-30 for the winter?

Right now you can get 5 quarts of mobil 1 for $11 after rebate :)

Actually, i'm doing a bit more research and since mine is an 07 so i think my manual calls for 5w-20, weird.

I would use 5W30 IMO. The 3.7 regardless of year is designed for 5W30 and 5W20 only came about to get like 1/10 mile better MPG. My 09 WK 3.7 called for 5W20 but I switched it to 5W30 and it has been just fine. How many miles on your KJ?

Mine says on the oil filler cap, 5w 30 so that's what it was designed for and what it gets.

x2 ^ I'm with Dave.
For cold and flow rate I believe Mobil one syn is good to around -45 in 5w-30.
Anything 0-weight -30 as TJKJ already mention is too thin.
Remember oil also cools the motor and removes friction.
Don't need any more friction..I want my motor to last.

My cousin dropped to that in his Mazda CX-9 and got a 1-2 MPG increase on average. But as everyone said I like to stick to what the engine is designed to run on.

with the temperatures you see, stick to 5w20 / 30.

I see colder then 99% of this board and 5w20 is fine. If you want start up protection use synthentic and a block heater.
